I was able to repair the visor falling problem. Don't know how long it will last but it's fixable:
Remove the visor from the vehicle.
Carefully remove the shaft from the visor--it's about 4" long.
The shaft appears to be a hollow tube covered with vinyl.
You will probably find a portion of the vinyl worn away near the center of the shaft.
Use 5 minute EPOXY to build that area back up to the level of the vinyl.
After it sets (24 hours or so) carefully file the epoxy level with the vinyl so the shaft will fit back into the visor.
Reinstall the shaft. Reinstall the visor.
If you applied enough epoxy the visor should stay where you want it.

Hi,

Here is another option in fixing loose sun visor with I-link. This is what works for me.

- Remove the mirror/vanity light from the visor. It will hang by its wires.

- Locate where the shaft slides into the visor tube.

- With a box knife cut and remove the styrofoam to exposed the 3 tin tubes. The tin tubes are about one half inch long.

- Slide the visor off the shaft being careful not to break the electrical wires.

- With a plier gently squeeze the 3 exposed tin tubes.

- Slide the visor back in to the shaft. Visor need to be force back in if is too tight.

- Replace the mirror/vanity light in to the visor.

- If the visor is still loose squeeze the 3 exposed tin tubes again.

- Good luck. Hope this helps.

I need to repair my visor (if possible) but I'm not sure how you access the mounting screws for removal.

Thanks...

I'm late to the thread but I'm having the same problem. This is a "new to me" 2002 HL Limited that I got in Nov '08. I was using velcro strips that would atleast hold up for a few days at a time before coming unglued but not thats to the increased heat the velcro glue is liquifying and sliding off the visor and onto my seat and the visor now wont stay up hardly at all. Has a best fix solution been decided? Has toyota decided to fix it on its own? I am also apart of a toyota/lexus family tradition and would hate it if I have to give them a black mark.

Are yu talking about the HomeLink version (3 button Garage opener) drivers side visor???
I believe these were the most common defective visors.

In any event...get out your BIG black marker...Toyota has never addressed any visor issues . They will not replace it for free.

It appears that the early gen HL's 01-03 had more of this problem.
The Homelink buttons were moved from the drivers visor to the center overhead console from 04-07.

The dealer gets alot of $$ for it new.
Used is a mixed bag because many coming from salvage yards are pretty much worn out and loose already.
It appears that these visors always wear out after the 3 YR /36 Mos warranty is up. As a result it seems that there was no interest by Toyota to fix the 01-03's visor design until 04.

Do-It-Yourself Re: Sun Visor Problem

I have a really good and inexpensive solution to the loose sun visor problem. Please reply if you would like assistance. My vehicle is a 2002 Highlander. The retainers are a simple method to keeping the sun visors up.
