Weird Noise

My aunt has a 2004 Highlander Limited and at high speeds lets say 60 or 80mph, the exterior noise is really loud in the interior, and the noise is really strange, it sounds like a V8 than a V6. any one else have this problem, plus im thinking that its coming from the tires, and the tread is i think almost gone, could it also be that she needs new tires or is it another problem?

depending on the brand, worn tires can make a racket. Even though they may have acceptable overall tread, wear patterns can do it.
