Default HELP: Keyless entry beeps/honks...

Hi
I know there is a way to shut off the keyless entry beeps and honks. Does anyone know how to do this? I have a 2004 Highlander.

I silenced mine yesterday by following these steps(they work).

1) Sit in the Truck with the drivers door open

2) insert ingition key and withdraw it

3) within 5 seconds insert it again and turn it to the "ON" position (not the accessory position)

4) wait ten seconds or more..

5) hit the "lock" or "unlock" button on the remote quickly twice(while key is still in ignition)

The beeping function should be disabled then.

I still have an open thread open as to where the speaker is located on the 06 models so I can tape it to silience it. I know it's somewhere by the battery, maybe between the skin of the truck.

It's in your owners manual page 20

Quote:

SWITCHING BEEP SOUND ON AND OFF
You can switch the beep on and off. (The
beep is on initially and after battery replacement.)
To switch the beep on and off:
With the driver’s door opened—
1. Insert the ignition key and remove it.
2. Within 5 seconds, insert the ignition
key again and turn it to the “ON” position.
3. After 10 seconds, push the same
“LOCK”, “UNLOCK” or “PANIC” switch
twice within 10 seconds.
Two beep sounds inform you that the
program has been switched on or off.
If this procedure is not followed exactly,
the beep will not operate as expected.

Thanks.
That turns off the "beeping", but the horn still honks several times. Does anyone know how to turn THIS off?

Is your remote built into the key (gulf States)
or is it a black remote seperate from the key?
Do you have a pic of it?
I wonder if you have a gulf states or aftermarket alarm.
I am digging further, it may be a CUSTOMIZABLE feature. I will look. NOPE not customizable.
I found the outline of the system
see attachment
I dont think you can turn off the horn for the alarm.
I hope somone else has found a way.

Is the security RED L.E.D. in the dash or somewhere else?

The reason I ask is
I have a 05 highlander in front of me right as we speak.
When I activate the keyless entry/alarm the piezo beeps and the horn honks.
I turned the piezo off per the instructions and the horn still honks.
It has a aftermarket alarm on top of the factory alarm and that is what is causing the horn to activate on THIS Highlander. I disconected the aftermarket alarm and the horn didnt honk anymore. There is a RED L.E.D. in the dash (FACTORY) as well as under the lower steering cover(aftermarket).
I dont remember the horn honking on any toyota that had a PIEZO chirper.
Maybe another highlander owner will help.
I will look some more.

I agree with mustang67408, it sounds like you have an aftermarket alarm system that works with your keyless entry.

I own a 2004 Highlander, and I've owned various other Toyota Models through the years and none of them "honk" when keyless entry is used. The only noise is a high pitched tone when using keyless entry.

Can you take a picture of the horn that is honking?
I am waiting to see if another highlander comes in and see what happens on it.
I thnk you have some sort of aftermarket alarm added to the factor one.
