HighlanderGeneral discussion forum for the Toyota Highlander and Highlander Hybrid.
This is a discussion thread titled "Parking brake adjustment", within the Highlander forum, part of the SUV Forums category.
Aloha! Could someone please advise me on how to adjust the parking brake on a 04 HL? It came out of the shop for service, tech said "everything" is ok, but the brake won't hold even on a mild slope, on another thought, why doesn't the tire pressure warning light stay out? No flats, stock tires and rims,.....why?

thank you and mahalo!
On your tire pressure warning light, if they rotated your tires it probably needs to be reset, see you owners manual. If it's still doing it after you reset it, it could be one of the batteries in one of the senders (in the tire) that has gone bad.

Oh by the way, "Batteries are included" with the Prius & Highlander Hybrids

Correct on the first part, but the Highlander does not use sensors in the wheels, rather it uses the ABS computer to compare wheel rotations on the 4 tires to pinpoint a difference, signalling a low tire.

Parking Brake - Not the simplest of tasks, maybe you should have the shop do it. See atachments.
Tire pressure warning lamp remains on after ignition switch is turned ON.
System abnormal 1 is detected.
Low pressure is detected.
Suspect Area:
1. Check tire pressure and press the tire pressure reset switch a few seconds.
2. Tire pressure warning lamp circuit
3. Combination meter assy
4. Brake actuator assy

Thanks Jim. My 05 Tundra used the in the wheel ones and my HH doesn't have the low pressure warning system. I assumed Toyota used the same in all their vehicles. Never cared for the in the wheel ones, especially when I ran my TRD wheels and the light would start flashing on a long trip with no way to by-pass it. Not to mention you had to have special wheel that would allow their use.

bob: Unfortunately, I understand the government has decided the direct-read pressure sensors will be mandated (either 2007 or 08, I believe) although the manufacturers had pushed for the rotation differential systems as being lower cost and just as effective. I do not like the direct read systems, either.
