Question Any LED light bulbs for HL?

Are there any LED light bulbs for the Highlander? Just the bulbs, nothing like the whole tail light assembly from the Hybrid. Would be nice to have it, but too pricey.

Hi,

Yes, they do make LED Bulbs for the highlander and many other cars and trucks.

Here is a site that I have purchased LED Bulbs from before, but if you performa google search for LED Bulbs, I know you will find many other sites that sell these. Also, check ebay, there are a lot on there.

These are replacement bulbs that are made with LEDs, so they will be plug and play.

Super Bright LEDs

I hope this helps and please feel free to ask me more questions about this is you would like. I have purchased and use the plug and play LED bulbs before and have also dome some custome work with loose LEDs. I love LEDs!

Hey drmonkey1313, the site is good thou it does not have anything that would fit the tail light of the Highlander. I particularly looking for the ones that would fit into the break lights. Which one are you running instead?

Default Re: Any LED light bulbs for HL?

I included the bulb chart for our Highlanders below:

Our tail lights and Stop lights are 7443. I would recommend using an LED Bulb that has LEDs all around it instead of one where the LEDs all point in the same direction. Reason is because our tail lights are designed to reflect light and if the LEDs all point out through the lense, then it will not be as bright as it could be.

Also, you want to get LED bulbs in the same collor as your tail light lense or you will not be able to see the light (very well). Our tail light lenses are red, so buy Red LED bulbs, not white.

Here is a link to the 7443 LED bulbs. This is not the same store I linked you to before, so I don't know much about them, but this will at least give you an idea of what I am talking about purchasing. If you search for 7443 LED bulb, you should find more out there. Tail Light Brake Light Turn Signal LED Bulbs

As for buying LED turn signal bulbs, you can go with either Amber, Yellow or Red LEDs since our lense is clear for the turn signal. Again, I suggest using LED bulbs that have LEDs all around it instead of all pointing in the same direction. You should be able to just swap out the turn signal bulb with an LED bulb, but your blinker may blink fast because of the low power consumption of LEDs. The fix for this is very simple. You will need to buy a resistor and connect in in the wireing of your tail lights. It does require a small bit of splicing wires, but this is not a big deal and I will be happy to help you with pictures or whatever you need since I am planning on doing this mod as well. You will need a resistor for each tail light (right and left). Here is a link to what I am talking about. Product Listing - CAR I believe it is the 4th one down the list on this page.

Let me know what you find and if there is anything else I can help you with. Once I do this mod on my Highlander, I will take pictures and put together a "how to" I am hoping to do this within the next month or so. I am still trying to decide if I want to do this OR just buy the Hybrid LED tail lights.

Keep in touch!

Anybody have pictures of how the LED bulbs would look for the brake/tail lights?

It makes sense that upgrading to LED is for the purpose of getting bulb longevity, but I am interested in cosmetics too. Does the LED bulb replacement for the brake/tail lights look brighter or better?

I do not have pictures of how the LED bulbs look in the Highlander tail lights, but I do have pictures of how they look in my old Infiniti I30 tail lights.

http://www.cardomain.com/ride/796084

As for the brightness, I am not entirely sure, but for optiomal brightness, you will want to use an LED Bulb that has LEDs all around it instead of all pointing in the same direction.

I hope these pictures of my infiniti will help.

Oh, the other reason to switch to LED bulbs is because they react quicker making it safer. Regular filiment bulbs take time to light up and then fade out, but LEDs are instant on instant off. Just FYI.

Thanks for the info. You've got a sweet looking Infiniti. I like the LED sidemirror covers. Is there anything for the Highlander?

Hi thanks. It sounds like you didn't scroll down to the bottom of page one. LOL It WAS a sweet looking Infiniti. Then some dumb lady caused an accident and now it is totaled. lol

So as for the LED turn signal mirror covers, I have not seen any for the Highlander, BUT they do make them for the RX330 and I have been trying to figure out a way to make them fit that would be simple.

Toyota does sell OEM painted to match your car LED turn signal side mirrors, but the price is about $399 per pair and I have not been able to spare that much to get them yet. LOL I am hoping to buy these one day though. Here is the link to them. Toyota Parts - Toyota Japan Highlander Turn Signal Mirror

(drooooling) every time I see these I get my credit card out and want to buy them so damn bad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, I almost forgot. Tonight I replaced the following with bright white LED bulbs;

I purchased them from SUPER BRIGHT LEDS home

INTERIOR:

Map lights = 168 WLED 5-LED Wide Angle LED Bulb X2

Front and rear roof lights = DE3175/3022 X2

Front door side lights. (the ones that are on the bottom of the front doors)
= 168 WLED 5-LED Wide Angle LED Bulb X2

EXTERIOR:

License plate lights = 168 WLED 5-LED Wide Angle LED Bulb X2

It looks sweet. Although I am not as pleased with the front and rear roof lights LED bulbs, so I may change them out.

I will take some pictures and post them on my cardomain page shortly.

Hey, that's great! I would love to see the pictures when you are done. If you need any help with the install, let me know and I will be happy to help out.

I think I will be doing the tail lights and rear turn signals next as well.

I love these projects!

One note on LED bulbs for HL. Some 7443 LED bulbs will fit the socket, but their diameter is too big to go in the tail light hole. Be sure you get bulbs like those from SuperBrightLeds.com that are no more than 20mm in diameter, or they will not fit. I just ordered some today and will advise soon on how they look/work.

You can send them back for refund if they don't work out, so those guys are very good about returns!

Default Re: Any LED light bulbs for HL?

Yeah the size diameter must be no more than 20mm .

I tried all combos and different brands and wide and narrow light array type... forget about it . Definitely not a good mod for the Highlander. The parabolic reflection design of the lenses in the rear don't allow the LED's to work /reflect properly. The Led's are so dim and muted.

Not worth the effort. I have some LED's for sale. I gave away some to a owner of a Ford F150 he liked it. I didn't even think it was great on his truck.

Go with the PIAA's (Incandescent) I did that instead. Way much better results.!
