Default Emmission/o2 Sensor/Heater problems-'02 H/L

I really hope someone can help me. My engine light came on 6 months ago...took it to Toyota said it was something with an emmission leak...5 months later came back on took it back said it was O2 sensor got it fixed for $430...NOW its back again and I really don't want to take it back to toyota cause just to diagnosis a problem they charge me a $106. I know there can be many reasons why the light came on but maybe someone else has experienced the same problem. I just noticed today that there is absolutely no heat coming out only cold air. Does anyone know if this can trigger your check engine light and what can be the reason there is no heat...let me say that i can get heat if I turn the knob a little past the intermediate climate...so bizarre. I would really like any advice anyone has. Thanks in advance.

curious, how many miles yu have? is it a ltd. or base H/L?
with all the money yu paid at dealer, what was the DTC(trouble code) that they Gave yu in writing. Their could be more than one in the eeprom of the ecm.
I need the code. P1xxx. like that .

also, check the obvious, for your heater, are yu low on antifreeze? it doesn't take much loss to diminish heat output.
I feel it's a separate issue apart from your engine light.

Get back to me.

your heat problem is the control unit. search for this condition and you will find instructions on how to fix it instead of replacing it. yspert

Well it turns out that the CEL was due to a lose gas cap. As for the heater problem you were right it was the panel but they asked for $700!!! just for the panel I was like no way so I had my mechanic tighten the knobs and fix it for $120. As I was finally relieved today on my way home from work the CEL came on again so I am again fustrated as hell. I know for sure it is not the gas cap because I check that so now I have to take it back yet again to see whats happening.

I can't believe I am having so many problems for a car with 47,000 miles

First post.... I, too, have had never ending problems with the CEL on my 2003 Highlander. Otherwise a very satisfied owner, but I am repeatedly having the CEL light come back on after repeated trips to dealer and other garages. Specifically I get one or more of the following Cause Codes: PO441, 442, and 446. Diagnosis ranges from "loose gas cap" to "disconnected evap hose". My local garage (not Toyota affiliated) says this should be covered by emissions warranty, but my Toyota service center in Northridge has never stepped up and said "this is a common problem, we'll take care of you". Their MO seems to continually nickel and dime me (and apparently others) regarding this seemingly silly problem. I've driven many miles with the CEL light on since it costs $100 min every time I take it in to get this addressed.

Please, any specific advice on how to deal with this is appreciated!
