Default Another Check Engine Light Situation

This is my first post as I found this site while trying to find out about the CEL problem. (I'm astonished at the price quoted and the fact that it is not covered under the extended emissions warranty.)
The dreaded Check Engine Light (CEL) appeared. Went to my Dealer who did a diagnostic and told me Oxygen Sensor Bank 1, Sensor 2 Code P0136 is the problem. They quoted me a price of $565.23 Tax included for the replacement. This appears extremely expensive. Is it reasonable to go to a generic auto shop for this repair.? Could this be a result of a defective catalitic converter? What could happen if I ignore the CEL?

My friend you are coverred by the emissions warranty that goes till 80K miles. Have the stealership replace them free of cost, or else call Toyota and complain...

Everything like O2 sensors, cats, mufflers etc are covered by Emissions Warranty i.e 8yr/80K mile warranty.

I would suggest read your owners manual, then call Toyota Customer Service, arm yourself with the data and go to the dealership. If the dealership gives you BS, then tell him you will take the matter with Toyota North America.

In the meantime, check out if the other stealerships are talking the same!!! They all sleep in the same beds, till they get the finger from corporate office.
