Default New Mobil 1 oil?

Was shopping for oil today for my 03 Highlander and found what I think is a new Mobil 1 formula. It's Mobil 1 Truck/SUV formula. Has anyone tried it yet? I stuck with the 5W-30 but other weights were available. Interested in any feedback. It is suppose to have 'more' cleaning agents then regular Mobil 1. Price was the same, so figured 'more' was better with AWD.

Mobil seems to have several 'NEW' variations out and one is about $1-$2 a quart more then the regular Mobil 1. I say it's marketing at it's finest to try and get more of your dollars.

No difference in price. Walmart had both regular mobil 1 and mobil 1 Truck/SUV 5 gallon jugs for 22.97. So I went with option 2!

I was talking about that new Mobil 1 'Ultimate' I believe. At Wally world it was $1-2 a quart more then the regular Mobil 1. I use 0W-40 in my one vehicle ane see it's now $5.96 a quart at Wally World.

Only other Mobil 1 I saw was the extended mileage (15,000 mi. or one year) which is probably the 'Ultimate' for around $29. Since I would never keep a filter on that long ( I'm using Toyota filters now while in warranty), that was a mute point. Local auto store where I have my oil changes charges $6.29 a quart for Mobil 1 , crazy! With the billions Exxon/Mobil is making you would think they would cut us a break and cut the price on their oil. Yea, right!

Old thread...... Yu don't NEED to use Toyota filters to Maintain your WARRANTY. The biggest MYTH going for a million years. Dealers love this bogus myth!!

And, I feel that they are NOT the best filters out there, even for the price. I have a case of O/E filtrs for MZ series that I will never use except in a pinch when I absolutely need one

But, if yu like to do your Oil Changes at the dealer, that's ok too... I guess.

At least it beats Jiffy Lube oil filters. But dealers and Quick lube "type" places still only give yu bulk recycled oil.

Yu pay extra if yu know enough to ask for quality bottled stuff like Name Brand Synthetic stuff, etc.

I cut open the original factory oil filter on my 2002 Highlander. The filter was made in Japan and seemed to be quality material. I bought a replacement Toyota oil filter at my Toyota dealer. I noticed it was made in the U.S. After the next change I cut it open and it was garbage in my opinion. When I cut the paper out and held it up to the light, I could see "pin holes" of light coming through all over. I went to a Wix filter and cut it open after the next change and it looked great-no pin holes in it. I have been using Mobil 1 since about 10,000 miles with no complaints

Are you talking about the break-in filter? They are actually space age filters, I personally haven't seen anything like it before I took the one off my highlander. LifeTech confirms it is the TRD version of Toyota filters running at $13 a pop. Anyway, the break-in filters are really cool stuff with the intention to grab as much break-in material as possible. The OTC filters come no where next to the TRD version of Toyota filters. I would just go with a low OCI with any OTC filter.

True Dat...my OCI includes a K&N or Mobil 1 Filter.$10-$12 versus the TRD's that match the O/E Japan Filter@ $25.(awsome Racing spec. filter# -20001) which I prefer.
I just can't justify this price on a maintenance part.

There would have to be a huge bulk order imported from "Toyota Japan" to bring that price down to maybe $15.00...considering the poor dollar to yen exchange, duty tax and all.

Why does Toyota only offer plain old Toyota labled filters to us American Toyota owners??? A sterotypical problem...The bottom line is more important than the loyal T-owner. This never existed with Toyota back in the early 1980's.

Japan has the good stuff!!!!

Yes, the first filter was the factory "break in" filter. The second U.S. bought Toyota brand filter was, in my opinion, a piece of junk with the holes in the paper large enough that I could see clear light through. That is when I went online and found good independent info on oil filters. As you may know, most oil filters in the U.S. are made by just a couple or so companies no mater what brand name is on them, but they do make different spec oil filters. By my own "cut open" checks, I decided to quit looking for the cheapest buy and spend as much money as a Toyo brand will cost and get a much better design like Wix or Purolator. I'm sure there are a couple of other good ones out there. I lean more these days to the term of "stealer" instead of "dealer". Listening to dealers advice on oil and filters is like listening to them say I didn't need a transmission flush till 90,000 miles-yeah right.

Hopefully they will get a $4,000 tranny job from yu after your Powertrain Warranty is up.

I want the O/E Oil filter that came with my Highlander. Not at a premium price ,special ordered as a TRD part. That's not fair. I understand that it is made in Japan and all, but, so was my H/L.

I would be willing to pay $6 or even $10 for it . But Toyota Partds Dept. look at me like I have two heads when I dare even ask for this TRD filter and they add a nice vig to it @ $25.00+.

Japan gets the good stuff. The USA Market doesn't matter . A drop in the bucket .

IMHO

I use wal mart super tech filters and oil. 130k so far. engine is like day 1 or better. the rest of your beloved tundra will turn to dust before what oil filter you use will matter, short of a real POS. Super Tech filters get decent reviews.
they r 2.50 each.

i remember when amsoil was hawking their filters as superior. made by hastings, quality control issues eventually forced them to move to another manufacturer, or so i am told by my friend that walks around in his pathetic amsoil dealer shirt
