HighlanderGeneral discussion forum for the Toyota Highlander and Highlander Hybrid.
This is a discussion thread titled "**WARNING** Thinking of getting NAV", within the Highlander forum, part of the SUV Forums category.
I thought I would post a note of warning to all current and prospective Highlander owners out there. Be VERY CAUTIOUS about purchasing your Highlander with Navigation. I have an 04 Limited, AWD, Fully Loaded Highlander with Nav. My Nav quit working about a month and a half ago so I took it to the dealer to have it fixed. The unit has failed, and Toyota DOES NOT MAKE THE PART AVAILBLE TO THE DEALER TO FIX IT UNDER WARRANTY!!! So basically I have a $2000 option that is useless, and Toyota is refusing to repair/replace it. I have owned 7 Toyotas over the past 10 years (96 ES300, 98 GS300, 02 4-Runner, 02 Camry SE, 03 Matrix, 04 highlander, 07 Camry SE)...if they continue to refuse to fix it, then it will be my LAST TOYOTA.
I just bought the 07 Camry SE V-6....it's loaded too, leather, NAV, remote start, etc... it only has 8k miles, but if Toyota can't support the cars that they sell, then I'll trade it in for a Honda TOMORROW.
The thing that really confuses the crap out of me is this...if you are going to make parts unavailable to replace warranty items, why would you do it with parts for your higher end customers? When I bought the Highlander, you couldn't order one that was more expensive than the one I bought....the same with my Camry, I special ordered it and waited 3 months to have it built so it would be FULLY Loaded.
I guess Toyota has finally gotten big enough now that keeping their loyal customers happy isn't a concern anymore....

In any event.....BEWARE
New2cup...
I too get all my Toyotas "LOADED". As such my 06 H/L Limited has Nav.
I could not fit one more option code, I even got the Roadside assistant kit/firstaid kit/ tow pack /reciever/ run boards/ RSEntertainment...bla bla bla/.
I'm confused with this post.
Yu are under warranty? Correct?
I am a retired Toy Dealer tech.
Here in NYC area . I would never expect this to be true of any Toy dealer. Yu have recourse ...I'm confused...what exactly happened to the nav. Because not only does the nav screen offer Navigation, it is necessary for Climate and Radio settings... Am I missing something???
Get back to me!
LT
PS... I have looked closely at Honda/ Acura for similar reasons as yours.
Honda/Acura Corp. Reps treat yu the same whether yu have a Honda or Acura....But Toyota definitely treats Lexus cutomers way better than Toyota customers. I don't like that one bit.
I smell L***n L*w!!! Yu know... that bitter taste of lemonade...
