Question Idle Speed on the 4 Cylinder

If you have a Highlander with the 4 cylinder, would you please tell me what your cold start-up engine rpm is? Also would you please give your model year?

hl,

I don't have the 4 cyl, but for those that do, consider ambient temp at startup. The cold start Idle varies by outside temps. So someone with a 4 cyl in Fla. climate at 85 deg. would idle lower at startup than say yu would in a northern 30 deg. climate.

If it means anything, my 3.3 6cyl. went to approx 2000 rpm this morning. The ambient temp was about 34 deg. F. My intake air temp was about 36deg when cold started. This intake air temp is read at the Mass air flow sensor (MAF Thermister) and coolant temp sensor tells the engine ECM to adjust idle accordingly. Then the ECM goes to"Closed Loop"

Talking Re: Idle Speed on the 4 Cylinder

Thanks for the reply. I was beginning to think no one else had or knew of the 4 cyl. Mine has always started at what seemed to me a too high idle speed when cold, which would of course slow down gradually. The local Toyota dealer told me it was normal, but they are the same people who told me not to worry with a trans flush till 90,000. I haven't driven it in so long (wife has priority) I can't remember exactly what the rpm range at start-up is. The start-up rpm was one of the reasons I went to Mobil 1. Can you tell me if the 4 cyl eng block is all aluminum, including cyl walls?

I know this is waaay to late, but the cylinder walls have cast iron liners, and my cold start idle in my 04 4cyl is about 2000 drifting down to 1500 rpm within twenty seconds.
