Default Adding climate control

Has anyone added climate control? I was wondering if it is possible to swap out the manual controls for climate control. I have an 04? I know Toyota usually has everything pre wired.

Thanks Bill

That's a big maybe!

Maybe not even cost effective.

Look, ANYTHING is possible.

Start out by studying the schematic differences with the manual and automatic Hvacs . I believe there are ambient sensors to consider depending on the year. Is there an external amplifier in addition to the controls with the climate control ?

Lot of things to consider.

I say it can be done. But at what cost? Not just monetary. Might just be a pain. Or it might be easier than yu think.

Honestly, I just don't know for sure.

But I know where to start. Time consuming research for sure. Some aspects of the retrofit might be trial and error! At the sacrifice of purchased parts.

Ideally one would have two H/L's side by side in a shop with plenty of time(one with and one without Climate control a/c) and just examine and reverse engineer part by part. Easiest way to accomplish this project.

Anyone else on this?

There was a post a few years ago on another board where someone attempted this. They just replaced the controls. Only thing that didn't work was the fan. The standard unit uses a multiposition switch and dropping resistors in the fan housing. The Auto controls use a PWC ( Pulse width controller) ( solid state variable control resistor ) also mounted in the fan housing . After that the thread stopped. The board has since disappeared.

Possible yes, what all is needed, at least these 2 parts.
