Default Hooking iPod to Stock Stereo?

Has anyone hooked an ipod up to a stock stereo system? I have a 2004 Highlander.

Thanks for any help!

Toyota/Lexus Audio,Video and Information Solutions (Lexus Auxiliary input,Lexus iPod integration,Lexus XM integration). i hooked it up myself (and i'm not a car audio guy at all) and it works great. you can control the ipod from your stock stereo. the HU treats the ipod like a huge CD changer and pretends each playlist is a CD. you don't have the same browsing capabilities from your HU like you have from the ipod directly, but i still like it a lot. plus, if you want, you can control your music from the ipod instead of the HU.

I've used a little FM transmiter that plugs into the cig lighter, but I was unhappy with it because it only broadcasts on 88.1 - 88.7 and there are 2 lower powered christian broadcasting stations that are in that range on my morning commute, so it didn't work well, plus I had to crank the stereo volume up and crank the ipod up, the quality wasn't very good. (worth all $7.00 I paid for it: INSTEN - Gooseneck FM Transmitter w/ Car Charger for iPod Mini [FM02], works good as a charger, and it does position the ipod at a good height for viewing)

I just resorted back to the casette adapter that plugs into the ipod. I'm ususally listening to full albums, playlists or podcasts so I'm not having to hunt and play with the ipod much.
I can run the ipod at 3/4 volume and control the stereo volume like a normal CD or radio station. For under $15.00 I found it to be a cheap and reliable solution. No need to rip into the dash. (a good alternative Universal Car Audio Adapter)

I used both the mount and the casette adapter this morning and it was a good combo, good height, charging, and good audio quality.

I installed the USASpec “DF-TOY” auxiliary audio input device. It runs 2 audio sources into the CD changer input of the factory radio. You toggle back and forth between the two aux sources by selecting what “disc” is playing on the simulated CD changer. I set it up for my XM Radio as one input source, and the other an ipod input jack. Works as advertised, great direct-wired audio quality, was only $60 bucks, and was very easy for me to install "plug and play" (and I'm not a techie). Here is a link: http://www.usaspec.com/aux2.html

Good luck

Dave

Anybody tried aftermarket options for an ipod setup on a 2006 Highlander Hybrid with GPS and 6 CD changer? I've been told that you have to buy a new nav system that incorporates ipod/MP3 capability. Was hoping that some sort of adapter or converter would work.

The dealer tells me my 07 HL stock stereo
doesn't accept a CD changer. Is this thread basically saying that even the basic stereo, which comes with an in-dash single CD and a tape deck, capable of an a ipod connection that is NOT through the tape deck?
For that matter, is a 6 disc changer possible too?

Take out and look to the rear of your stock radio to determine it the Aux CD changer jack is open and in there to begin with.

Dealers know much less than yu think about Toyota Radios. Better ask a Radio shop first.
