Interior & ExteriorDiscussions about the interior, and exterior of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "Do it yourself tint", within the Interior & Exterior forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
In my opinion suntek film is the best you can get. Not telling anyone what to do either, but I would not use dish detergent in my solution... use a few drops of baby shampoo, it is much better.
I bought the Gila 20% window tint and tint accessoriey kit and installed it with a friend from Advanced Auto Parts. There were bubbles and creases all through it. I got about 4 months our of the tint until one day I rolled down my window and the tint got caught down inside the window track. I pulled it off and during christmas break I called Ziebart to install 20% smoke colored tint. I payed $95 for life time tint. Does not cove againts scratches and nicks. Ziebart uses johnson film. I had the front windows retinted and I added tinting the sliding rear window 20% about 2 years later.. The old tint on the front windows, I had removed and replaced with 20% black tint to match the side cab windows. Ziebart did a crappy job because there was creases all through the front windows. Well I got a letter a couple of weaks later after tint purchase saying that my local Ziebart went out of business. Well now I'm screwed. I called Ziebart Headquarters in MICHIGAN and they said that I had to take pictures of the tint. It was pretty hard trying to take pictures of it. I finally just gave up. I did get a price on a local tint shop to replace the front windows with 20% and the total was $65. Money is kind of tight right now so I'm leaving it as it is.
