Interior & ExteriorDiscussions about the interior, and exterior of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "rollpan ?S", within the Interior & Exterior forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
i am thinking of installing a rollpan but i have some ?'s
1- i see people prefer sir michaels or lund ,why? i saw one i like but it had no name brand(or unknownmaker) .should i be weary of these as far as fit, quality etc.?
2- as far as license plate lighting ,is there a license plate frame with built in lights avail. or are there other ways to install lighting
well i thought id ask here first and feedback will be appreciated
I have the sir michaels and it has a light built into it.Works great and i also have the sir michaels hide a hitch that is behind the license plate. It all works well together. All bolt on.
ROBROM1,
One big difference of the Sir Michaels is that it is steel as opposed to fiberglas. You'll have to decide whether that's a benefit or drawback, but it made me go with the SM. I'm thinking about cutting out some small holes for some 55 watt reverse lights. Steel allows a little more flexibility for mod and repair IMHO. Good luck.

Also, there are license frames that have lights in them. Check out any hot rodding or trucking magazine and there will be a couple of them.

cool guys ,thanks for the replys. OKC you are not the only one with the back up lights idea that was on my list as well ever since i saw the t-150 concept. the only concern i have about steel is rust but i guess a good prime and paint will deter. OKC ,do you have any back up lights in mind i was looking at some brands but i didnt find any that would look good except driving or fog.i could imagine the look on peoples faces(in their car at night) if i back up with bright fogs on the pan .anyway thanks guys and keep the feedback coming. OKC keep me posted on that mod

Still kinda at the planning stage. I've thought about mounting the standard rectangular ones vertically on the sides, but I'm also going to have to consider optimal light pattern. In all candor, this is a mod that is a ways down on my project list, however. ROBROM1, I've seen some of your impressive workmanship, so I'd probably benefit much more from your experience, anyway.

Well the thing is If somone rear ends you, You cant push out fiberglass. Also just the strengh vs. weight ratio isnt woth it. But the only Roll pans for our trucks are Lund(F. glass) and Sir Mike's(steel).
