Exclamation Rear Quarter Window Latches

This subject has been posted before but I want to tell everyone here who owns a 2000 and 2001 Tundra to check their rear quarter window latches.

I never open my windows except when cleaning them. This weekend the passenger side latch broke when I closed it after washing it. I checked the drivers side and sure enough it was cracked.

I called the dealer this morning and was told that there is a service bulletin on these parts, but they are only covered under the original 3 year/36000 mile warranty. The replacement part has a different part number is supposed to be more durable. My truck is barely two months out of warranty, but has only 30K miles, so the service rep said he will do a good faith warranty repair on both sides.

If your truck is still under warranty, check your latches before the warranty expires! The part the breaks is the middle pivot just inside the handle.

I had both of mine replaced before the warranty ran out. Only took about 5 minutes per side to do.

SATundra, this goes back to a question I posted before about replacing a TSB item BEFORE it breaks. Is that what you did, or were yours broken/cracked?

No, mine "broke" before the warranty ran out, both of them. I had each one replaced at different dealerships and never had any problems. I'm not so sure that any dealership would replace those without them being broken before you brought in the truck.

BTW both of them broke when the windows hadn't even been opened 5 times each. Haven't had any problems with the new ones, but then again I try not to open those windows anymore just in case.

Just rolled over 38k so now it breaks! Same story as everyone else, almost never open the windows but the one time you do they break. I read where someone machined a metal one. With the history that these parts have someone with a machine shop could make millions!$!$! I'll take two please...
Anyway, it's simple to replace but I would like see if it would be cheaper to order the part on line. Does anyone have the NEW part number?
Thanks.

I had mine replaced, I believe the "new" part number is the same as the original one. Im pretty sure what nhparrot posted below is it, same as old.

****NOTE FOR ALL****
I did a search of all the TSB's associated with my 2000 from this site, I then checked off all the one's to get the dealership to complete prior to expiration of the warranty (weither it needed it or not). They obliged me in doing them all without whinning or b****ing. Helps to have a friend on the inside to!

I had the quarter window, antenna, center armrest, seat belts, towing connector, brakes (all four) done.

Hindsight tells me I should have done an inspection of the exhaust manifolds and O2 sensors, oh-well. I'll probably get the JBA's and Turbo set-up later.

i never open mine, too much of a hassle to get back there to do so. would be cool if you could electronically open and close the things from the drivers seat. same for the rear window, though the new double cabs rear window does electronically go up and down.

I found them here for just over $21.00. I have used these guys before to get the security system upgrade parts and they were good. http://www.toyota-parts-dealer.com/

Are these replacement parts plastic or metal?

I have a dog who rides back there regularly. She puts a little extra wear and tear on them. Both broke today...

Thanks,
T23

Plastic, they look exactly the same but they are "improved"?
Time will tell, I replaced both a few months ago. I think it's a UV thing with the black plactic or the hole size prior to pressing the pins in...
