You've seen mine...but I'm a picture whore so here goes You're welcome to come and see them in person anytime. I'm right outside of Philadelphia.
Wilber444 has them as well, he used the same retrofitter that I did but he has black shrouds and no halo, IIRC. apintheca will also have a set done by the same person, they are in progress!
The projectors are BMW E55s with halogen halo rings, both out of an X5. I love these because I can run either D1S or D2S...yay for options. Plus they are huge at 3 inches. The shrouds are Audi. I'm using D1S bulbs and ballasts out of a Lincoln Zephyr.
Yup! Retrofit is done, have to finish the wiring harness so I can finally install them.
Since they're not bixenon, here's my highbeams...
Hella FF1000 HID,picked up three used ones for dirt cheap on ebay a few years ago, running two and the third is a spare. I'm ordering a pair of halogen versions to supplement these so highs aren't so dim during those first few seconds of ballast warmup.
In regards to the projector fitment, i'm trying to figure out how did you folks seal the back of the housings once you installed your projectors. I subscribed to the university of HIDplanet, and no one seems to show the back part sealed up. It appears to all be front and side view shots of the retro'd lights.
After reading up on some of the threads, I'm getting inspired to do this on my truck, but funds are tight and i'm still trying to figure out which projector combo to go with. So far, i've been looking at the LR3 projectors, but it's hard to find. If not then i have to save up for the TL/ZKW combo or space my own lenses.
What do you folks think?

Does anyone by chance know where I can read about HID's and what the beam would look like and such? I am going to retrofit my own but I have no idea what projector to go with and what shroud to go with. I just want to have a true HID set up and retrofitting is the only way to go with it. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!

When I was attempting the FX retro I didn't have to chop out the back of the housings. All I had to do was open up the inside diameter of the original H4 bulb opening with a 2.5" holesaw. I would've been able to use the stock rubber cap.
The Q45 retro was another story. My retrofitter cut out a large part of the rear housing due to the size of the projector bowl,he couldn't save the original opening. After the projectors were mounted he used aluminum tape to seal the back.
ah I see. After reading your post eddie, i went back to HIDplanet and found a picture view from the top and seen the tape you were talking about. At first, I thought the guy just glued strips of foil or something on the back and I figured that was quite ghetto for my tastes!
I automatically assumed that once the projectors were in, then you would just bondo the thing in or use something like epoxy putty or what not.
Oh Eddie, in regards to the Q45 retro, were there any space issues behind the housings? I visited a local stereo shop that I have heard does retrofits, but one of the guys there saw my truck and said that I don't have a lot of space behind there cause the magnet portion of the projectors are what stick out the most so there would be problems with fitment depending on what projector I choose to go with. He showed me a picture of a VIP lexus GS car they did with the Q45's in them, and I mentioned that i've seen some people in the mainland do that to their tundra's. Long story short, they called me back later to say that the installer doesn't think he can do my truck watever!
I really want a nice sized projector to fit inside the headlight because since it's a big spacious housing, I don't want no small sized projector in there making my tundra look all bug eyed. That's why i've been considering the LR3 since they looked pretty big on the Land Rover's I've seen driving by.

Space issues,it's about the same as a stock headlight on the driver side. It's hard to say on the passenger side since I have a Volant airbox instead of stock, but even with halogens it was a little tight. With the ballast plug connected I'd say the rear protrudes maybe an inch or so more than stock. To cut down on the cussing,I installed the bulbs and plugged in the ballasts before installing the headlights.
Caesar used three screws or threaded rods to mount each projector, the spots of JB Weld on the housing are where the screws/rods were bolted to the housing. The projectors butt up right against the housings but it still needed to be sealed,so he used that metal tape. I didn't want anything permanent as a seal (like fiberglass) so the projectors could be removed without damage.
I might still have the headlight I was experimenting with,I'll post pics if I find it.
