Default Painting Question - Clearcoat

I just bought a set of unpainted mirror covers for my 2005 Tundra Doublecab. I painted them using the Duplicolor color match paint from the auto parts store. Since the color coat was metallic (Phantom Grey) it came out a little rough. I heard this is normal due to the flakes in the metallic paint. I also read that I should not wet sand the color coat because it could create streaks in the metallic. However, I applied several coats of the Duplicolor clear coat per the instructions and the finish is still not as smooth and shiny as the factory paint. Should I wet sand the clear coat and then use a rubbing compound? If so, what grit sand paper? Any other suggestions? Thanks!
