Angry '00 Ext Cab Leaking!!

I discovered that my 2000 Toyota Tundra TRD is leaking during heavy rain. Its wet right next to the left hand side of the back seat. I tried to figure out where its coming from ,pooring buckets of water over that side and taking out the rear seat but still cant find it.Any ideas how to fix it. Can it be the rear window????

Take it through a drive-through car wash, look around while going through.

Hi , I just notice the same problem on my 2000 Tundra. I got the water hose and poured some water on the roof , i notice that there are two black rubbers seals that go from the front windshiled , over the roof and end up on the rear window, i pour water there and it drips inside, which ends up making its way next to the rear seats on both sides. I have tried putting some clear weather proof caulking , im waiting for it to dry real good 24 to 48hrs and hopefully this will take of the problem. hope this helps !!!

I m sorry to say , that after some heavy rain im back to square one. The leak is still there I took it to a auto glass place and they are telling me that the leak is not coming from the rear window. I guess im going to have to go to the dealer. Please let me know what your results are.

hey alexg, My '00 x-cab has the same leak. I thought for sure that it was the weatherstripping that you were reffering to. I have not been able to re-seal mine, but I guess that I will remove the rear interior to try and get a better look at where the water is comming from. If I find anything I'll be sure to post it.

3M makes a product that is called Clear auto sealer or something close to that, It is made to flow into very small places and dries in a couple of hours. You could try it first, if you think you found the area that the leak is comming from.

Check to see if it is leaking in the vents that are behind the rear seat and exit between the bed and the cab.

Well guys, after a month I finaly got my truck back from the trans shop, whole 'nother story. My first agenda was to find out where this leak is. My carpet is soaked and it's making my truck smells like dirty gym socks. I just ripped apart the rear interior and alexg was correct. The leak is coming from the sliding rear window and is entering where the roof weatherstripping meets the rear window weatherstripping. I don't believe the correct fix is trying to seal that area with silicone. If you notice on the bottom of the rear window there are two drainage dimples.I carefully ran a piece of safety wire up there and loosened quite a bit of dirt. It drains a bit better now, but I still have the leak. I am wondering if these drainage paths are getting clogged with dirt and eventually causing a leak inside the cab. I'm thinking the only way to fix this is by totaly removing the rear window, clean out all the dirt, and re-seal. I'm calling up a auto glass shop tommorow. I'll post afterward...
Anyone have the sliding rear window out of their truck?

Default roof weatherstrip

Anyone have the roof weatherstipping replaced under warranty? Mine is a bit sunbeat and cracked and I'm going to go try to get the dealer to replace it. I just bought the truck - certified used - and that carries a 6yr, 100K warranty. What do you guys think?

Thanks!

I'm guessing that 6yr 100k warranty is an engine and drivetrain warranty only, not bumper to bumper. But, I have been known to be wrong before. Doesn't hurt to ask 'em...

You're probably right. Is this happening to anyone elses weatherstripping up there? It's not too bad, and not leaking (yet), but I don't want to let it get that far..

If you are talking about the two strips that are about three inches above the door opening I don't believe they are weatherstrip. I think all they do is hide a standing welded seam. They stopped making cab tops in one piece quite a while back because it was too hard to maintain quality stamping. I doubt they would leak water even if they were missing except possibly where they abut the back window and windshield moldings. I'm guessing but I think they just clip on to the standing seam beneath them. Mine are in good condition but they've only been exposed to a upper midwest climate.

If a combo of all these whizz bangs met their claims you'd have to syphon gas out of your tank every second day and sell the excess horsepower on the third????
