Interior & ExteriorDiscussions about the interior, and exterior of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled ""nerf" bars - we'd like to hear your opinions", within the Interior & Exterior forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
None of them mount on top of the body mounts. If they did, you would have to raise your cab from the mounts to install them, not very practical.
All nerf bars are either to the frame, or body mounts.
Running boards or side entry steps are different. They can be mounted to the cab itself on certain styles.
Ok cool. I know I have seen body lifted Tundras with nerf bars that fit right under the body. I just wish there was a 'nerf bar store' where I could compare the mounts in person to see what would work best. I think I'm going to check some OEM bars out at the local dealership as I have heard that these bars are body mounted. Any other suggested brands that mount to the body?

I got my Bully tube steps, nerf bars, whatever you want to call them from T-Rex Motorsports (yourwheelman) off of ebay for $229, shipped. I had some initial difficulty installing them, more due to my own "mechanical" skills then anything with the steps themselves. They offer great assistance for vertically challenged people and greatly ease of entry to the rear seat, which was one of the main reasons for me buying them.
If you do install any tube steps/nerf bars one recommendation I would make is making sure to use a torque wrench and tighten them to the recommended point, such as anywhere from 55 to 70 ft-lbs. Also, use some Lock-Tite and, if not supplied, some lock washers. The combination of the two will ensure your nerf bars stay on your truck.
Initially they looked a little $$$ - however the EUROTECH 76MM SIDE TUBES are comming in around the same price as westin or smittybily in stainless for my '04 DC
