Interior & ExteriorDiscussions about the interior, and exterior of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "Sad story (need advice)", within the Interior & Exterior forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
Well my girlfriend drove my truck and scraped the side of it against an apartment call box. A 5 in long scrape happened above the fuel door and it looks like it may have gotten through all the paint.
Well she decided to try to fix it herself and bought touch up paint and tried to paint over it like it was a fingernail. Here's the result..
Other than dumping her (ha), what are my options for fixing this? What would remove the touch up paint? I'm not expected a perfect fix, but if i can make it less noticable, I'll do it. Thanks
There is a product called Lanka blob remover, or something along those lines. I've used it many times, I bought it online. Basically you fill the scratch in with touchup paint then you use this stuff like a wax on a rag wrapped aorund a credit card and it removed the high spot on the touch up. It works pretty well.
Also, if you have any guts, fill it in real good with touch up, sand with a Maguires 1500 micro sanding block and then with a piece of 3000 grit. I did this to a bird crap stain on the hood of my BLACK 300ZX. You can't even tell I did it. I also did a spot the size of a dime on my moms burgundy LS430. With that fine of a grit, you wont sand through unless you get stupid.
Ouch. I quite letting my gf drive my tundra. I tell her she can't handle it, she drives my truck like her little short wheelbase sentra and 90% of the time hop the curb turning right. I don't want her to clip another vehicle.

thanks for the advice and sympathy. I'm going to carefully scrape it off with a knife, use glaze filler and touch up paint. couple weeks later i will touch it up with rubbing compound and wax. I will post before and after pics. Wish me luck

Go over to the detailing forum if it is the paint and not in the metal. YOu may get some advice there.
I got out the lacquer thinner and 1000 grit sandpaper to start removing the touch up paint. As you can see by the pic, you can see the small areas where i sanded (green areas). I'm not too sure if this is the primer or the beginnings of the bare metal.. Should I primer this again or just start with the touch up paint?
Also, which primer is best.. The Thunder Grey Metallic body color looks like it could use either light or dark primer..
