I'm wondering about the back seat as far as kids go. I have a 12 & 10 year old. Have a car for all the local driving, mainly wanting to know about the 2 or 3 camping trips during the summer (60 miles or less) and a few trips to the coast ( 2 hours or less). Those of you with similiar situation, what's been your experience?
I know the new double cab is coming this fall, but I think it will be out of my price range. I'd like to have my tundra by summer also.

It's tight in the legroom department and also the back seatrest angle is too vertical. Head & shoulder room not a problem. I improved the too vertical back rest by doing the back seat angle mod. For the distances for which your kids will be in the back seat, I think you'll be OK. My wife is 5'4" and she has no problems sitting in the rear seat, but I'm 6'1" and it's very tight for my legs (tried it once). I'd say if your kids are 5 1/2 feet or less its no problem at all. Also depends on how far back the front passengers have their seats.

You have to become a club member. There's a small fee involved, but its worth it . As for the back seat.. it can get a little cramped, but lil' kids would be fine.

It's documented in detail under "backseat mod" in the Lon's garage section, and yes you have to be a member to view it. w/o violating forum rules, I can say it's an easy mod that costs a couple bucks in replacement bolts/washers and will take less than 30 mins. If that's the only thing holding you back from purchasing a Tundra, then I say wait no longer!

The back is not "That" bad. I sat back there for a one hour drive than was ready for a position change. For kids, I would say a 2-3 hour journey is about all they would take 'till mutiny. The vertical back rest is bolt upright, but a small airplane type pillow would help support slouching.
I've gone for 5.5hrs with people in the back seat fine. Their only complaint was the straight up back seat. I'vve done the mod for that but still not enough angle. Anymore of an angle and I'll lose too leg room. Ofcourse the people im my back seat are no more than 5'4" and I'm 5'2" so my seat is further up for more room in the back.
