Re: badges or no badges??? Who has taken em off, hmmm
I changed the "SR5" badges for Japanese "TRD" ones, it looks very good. I'm going to remove the "Toyota Tundra" badges next...thinking about removing the side trim too...are there giant holes in the door behind it?
Re: badges or no badges??? Who has taken em off, hmmm
bradbury, if you are asking about the side molding/door bumpers then yes. there are holes behind it. if i remember correctly, there are four square holes that hold in the side molding. there are few members that have removed them, filled in the holes and repainted it. they do look clean! the only problem is possible door dings!

Re: badges or no badges??? Who has taken em off, hmmm
I don't need no stinkin badges!! (sorry had to pull that one out). I zipped mine off w/ 20lb fishin line and 3M adhesive remover. Only damage was a blister on my thumb.
I have also been on a dechrome spree- swaped out my grill, getting new bumpers (although it looks as if I will need a strategy for the chrome on the new front hoop when it gets here). Since I did not want to do body work and repaint, I simply covered the chrome on the side molding with some 1 1/2" black adhesive molding. The only thing that I want to be shiney are my wheels! Stealth Tundra, baby!! Now if I can only figure out a way to not get it dirty.............

I also de-badged the doors. Like the cleaner look. I did leave the Limited badge for the rear doors. For the tailgate, I removed the
" V8 4WD" badges (there was no I-force V8 badge on the 2000). I replaced with FRP 01/02 badge "I-force V8" for the right side of the tailgate. For the left side, the new FRP badge will be shortened to "Tundra". Just another look to consider. I also wanted some detail for the folks that are following me!

I just removed mine yesterday. I heated them up with a hair dryer then used doubled up 20 lb fihing line and kind of sawed them off from behind the emblem. Only took about 5 minutes per side to remove. The remaining adhesive I removed with "Goo B Gone" that I got at Wal-Mart, then wiped down the area with water to clean off the remover. Don't forget you will have to wax over the area when you are done.

I removed mine last week except on the tailgate where I just removed the Toyota part using the method below but carefully cutting the joint between the last A and the first T.
I used spray on wax (Meguires detailing wax) and kind of lubed up the area and then also used the 20lb monofiliment fishing line and like with the hair dryer they came off very quickly and because as part of the removal process there was wax there the remaining glue was just picked off with my finger nails and the waxing part was also accomplished.

I just took mine off on Sunday. I used a clean plastic scraper, a little elbow grease, and a lot of care. I placed the scraper on the metal part of the letter (do NOT try to put it between the letter and the paint, as this will scratch the paint - guaranteed) and pushed, trying to slide the letter. What happens is that the letter will deform then come loose from the backing. Most of the adhesive will come off with the letter, the rest you will get off with Lift-Off or Goo-B-Gone. I used Lift Off and had no problems with my paint. Re-wax the area to be safe.
My #1 tip.... Take your time, paint is expensive, your time is free.
Looks like we covered all the bases on this one. I did the fishing line and hairdryer method. Very easy to heat up and then carefully "saw" your way through the badge 3M tape. Clean area, polish, and then wax as needed. Certainly, much easier to wash/wax with them removed and gives a nice clean profile look to me.

I removed the badges today after reading all of the helpful posts. I didn't have any 20# line so I tried some string. Heated up the badge with a hair dryer and sawed with the string. Took a while and then I had an idea. I used a wire tie, zip tie, cable tie, you know what I mean the little plastic things. Sawed that up and down and it was done in seconds!! You hardly have to heat it. When you don't heat it, there is very little glue left on the truck. Also any of the citrus based cleaners work great for removing adhesives. I used 3M citrus spray and a paper towel. Came right off. The TRD decal was more of a pain.
Nard,
Use a hair dryer. Also the citrus based cleaners work well for adhesives. I like 3M citrus. It takes a little while, it comes off in pieces. Maybe 10 min. per side.
Jim
How long have you guys had your trucks before taking off all the badges. I've had mine since December of 2000. I was thinking that if i took off all the badges then you could still see it in the paint. Has that happened for any of you? By the way I have a SunFire Red Tundra. Thanks
