Interior & ExteriorDiscussions about the interior, and exterior of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "PE Jack Rabbit vs. Retrax vs. Peragon", within the Interior & Exterior forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
i am trying to decide amongst these 3 tonneau cover choices. i would like to know what opinions people who have these covers have regarding them - pros and cons, advantages/disadvantages, etc. from what i can tell, all 3 are reliable and look good on the tundra. please let me know what you think.
Another thumbs up for the Retrax. Took about an hour and a half to assemble and install by myself and I was working slow. Very water tight except around the bed and I'm going to install some weatherstripping to take care of this. Made the truck noticibly quieter too. Not familiar with the others but it's NOT a mistake to go Retrax.
I have been happy with the Retrax.
It has been fairly water tight,a little on the rail sides at wash time.
No matter what climate your in get the lock cover!
Don't ever leave the lock up in snow or any time.
You loose the two front tie down loops.
Get the stake pocket cut outs to mount tie downs.
It takes about 14"x14" of bed space for the canister.
I like the Lexan over the padded vinyl on the others.Seems a little more durable.
The others work like a window shade with a spring in the canister.Retrax is totally manual.Retrax locks anywhere the others every 12".
The PE has a stouter lock system.A bar is mounted to the tailgate.
There are dealers out there call Retrax for locations.
I installed it my self with my son helping.
And I wax it with the rest of the truck.
Any questions just ask.

I've had mine for about 1 1/2 yrs and am very happy with this product. You can check My Photos for pics of the cover both open and closed. I also have a Bedrug which I would highly recommend if you're not going to haul anything major.
I HAD a pace edwards and it was junk. the top tore and the hinges always got crap in them. I now have a RETRAX and I love it. I have had 0 problems with it. Its great in all kinds of weather. Mine has never frozen up on me and I do agree get the lock cover, but i'd also have to push on getting their GATE GASKET it really keeps the dust and debris from getting through the tailgate.
My lock froze up on me while I was up in OH last winter. Where can I get the lock cover?
I have called them with questions about my Retrax and they have been Very supportive. Also try LPS lube in the lock and paddle hinge.I made the mistake of leaving it up in snow.It has not been the same since!
