Question Whistling noise

I have recently been hearing a whistling noise inside the cab at 60+ mph. It is hard to isolate where it is coming from. Could be anywhere between the left and right mirrors, including the whole front cap of the truck. I can't figure it out ! It just started doing it one day. Anybody else run across this problem ? Thanks, CM-

Are you running the AC? If so, many Tundras have "hissing" noise as the refrigerant throttles through the expandsion valve. This is not problematic, just annoying!

I get an ocassional whistling when doing 70mph into 30mph crosswind.

Otherwise I think our tundra's are on the verge of the truck sonic boom.

O.K. I figured it out today. Seems the bug shield / deflector was coming out of the grille in the middle. I have the deflector that wraps around the fender corners and has the 'legs' on it. Anyway, it is installed sandwiched between the hood and grille. I guess over three years the grille became a little loose and left a small crack where the deflector attaches. The wind across the front would cause it to 'whistle' at highway speeds. I am glad it is fixed, it was annoying the s*** out of me. :-)

Funny I didn't read this before.

I too have the same problem, and "ricqik" hit it right on the head.

It needs to very very specific speeds of the vehicle, wind, and direction.

I too have the Form Fit bug shield, but if I recall correctly, it was doing it before I installed that too.

I did a little research today and found TSB # BO003-97 which is titled "Wind Noise Repair Kit"

My Tundra is going in tomorrow to have this issue looked at again and hopefully fixed. This TSB will be taken with.

hey peid, which year vehicles did that TSB affect? mine might be having a little more wind-noise than is normal too. All the reviews i read about the truck, before i bought it, commented on how quiet and carlike this thing is. but mine sounds pretty noisy on the road, mostly due to wind noise around the A-Pillars.

You can see a list of service bulletins about your vehicle by clicking the Show products and Service Bulletins available for your vehicle link on the Tundra Solutions forums index

You can view the specific TSB's if you're a Club member.

The TSB was written in 1997, and has no revisions to it, so my dealer said it is not applicable.

Oh well, it is still in the shop now and hopefully fixed today.
