Interior & ExteriorDiscussions about the interior, and exterior of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "My HID Retrofit '05 Tundra DC", within the Interior & Exterior forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
OK so it's been about two years and now I have finally taken the plunge and am having an HID retrofit done for my truck...I have been communicating back and forth with Rich from hidillusionz.com, and he has been such a great help with the retrofit from start to finish. He's working on my lights right now and should be finished tomorrow.
So far i'm going with the fx35 bi-xenons w/swapped lens in a gatlin gun shroud. The housing would be painted, and hopefully a nice ccfl inside pending on availability. I think it's going to be one of a kind setup...well maybe at least down here in Hawai'i hehe!
Rich sent me a picture of how it looks so far, and I must say that it came out better then I anticipated, but I will keep that picture for myself and keep you all in suspense as I would like to reveal the final finished product to you all. He just needs to do some minor tweaking and when I get the final shots, you all will get to see it. I have to look through my paperwork to see exactly what my parts list consist of as I can't remember off the top of my head right now. I'm really excited and happy that this project I had invisioned for quite some time now has finally coming to fruition. Stay tuned I will keep you all updated shortly!

How much is he charging you if you don't mind? You should of done this yourself its really easy to do. I'm also doing a fx 35 retrofit on my 02. I have all the materials ready I just don't have the time right now even though it shouldn't take no more than 3 hours to do.
3 hours! damn you should go into the retro business yourself! from my research, even good retrofitters take at least a full day to properly align the projectors in the housings, making sure everything lines up and putting together all the wiring harnesses and what not.
For myself, i dont have the tools, time, or electrical know how to do this stuff. i understand the basic concept but most of us know that's different from actually doing it. i'd rather pay a reputable person that has the experience to do it and not worry if I botched my own lights.
price wise, i honestly dont know exactly at this point as certain changes were made from the time of my estimate, but overall it's not cheap! since shipping costs to hawaii is absurd. updates will hopefully be available sometime later on tonight or so.

Reason: business name changed
Ok well I just got the email from Rich and he finished up my retrofit! I must say that it came out extremely well and much better then I first anticipated. He's going to take more photos tomorrow and post them up on his business's online blog.
But for now, I present to you all the finished retrofit.
I've requested more photos and some action shots to be taken, so hopefully I will get them tomorrow. In the meantime enjoy the photos and i'll update you all with more info and pictures as I get them!

Looks awesome Kaleo...do you have some black or smoked corners to go with those headlights...if you could pm me a round about price I'd like to see if I could get a set of those for my truck.

yea that's a good point considering when I opened the box for the headlamps to check them before I shipped it to him, those things are HUGE. Even Rich, the retrofitter said that he was surprised at the size of those things by itself.
Oh btw, if you click on the link i posted for my pictures, then click fame gallery on the left. He just finished an '08 crewmax with a quad setup! The guy has the same setup as me*biter!*, except he used the tsx projectors for his low beam and the fx35 for the highbeam.

ok well I had my stereo guy install the lights this afternoon after work. So on my way home from date night with the gf, I fired them up for the first time and I was horrified to see that the driver side light was firing straight up in the sky. I was so scared to get pulled over by the cops, that my gf and I pulled over on the side of one of the back roads to try and fix the situation. The first thought that popped into my head was: crap, don't tell me the guy didn't mount one side correctly. Though when i returned home, I yanked out the corner lights and fiddled with the bulb to make sure it was seated correctly, that was fine. Then I remembered that it probably wasn't leveled right, so I just adjusted the height and brought it back down. Now I just need to go and find a wall to properly aim my headlights.
Overall, she fires right up and looks like a beauty! Great color band and a nice sharp cutoff. I will post pictures up of how it looks when I get my LED's installed sometime after monday this coming week. Don't worry folks, updated pictures are coming so stay tuned!

ok so without further adieu, I present to you the end result of the long awaited project. Enjoy the pictures!
Sorry, but I promised I resized every photo on photobucket, but I'm not sure why only some of them showed up with the corrected size? also, I didn't get the new LED's in just yet as some bills came in so they gotta be paid first!
