    Default seat belt retractor

Firstly, I would have to say the 2000 LTD with JBA headers and TRD LSD is a killer truck...and I wouldn't trade it for anything...BUT

I hate the design of the seatbelt....It is never easy to put on and is usually laying on the door sill where I usually close the door on it.( the metal insert)

Has anyone come up with a mod to improve the guide that the belt goes through??

Come on guys...my brother has the same truck as mine except his is a 2 wheel drive. He works for Toyota in cambridge Ontario Canada.... He laghed when I brought this to his attention, as his was doing the same thing. Mine seems to be the retractor doesn't have enough oompf, plus the goofy guide that the belt part goes through above my left shoulder never seems to align with the belt and it just tangles...sometimes I reach over my shoulder to grab the belt and it gets snagged on the guide.

Is it just me and my bro?

No, it's the same problem on my truck and all three Camry's that my wife has owned. I wish there was a fix to it.

There's as TSB listed in Lon's Garage, under service bulletins, to correct that problem. It's number is B0019-01. It involves adding a piece of slippery tape, probably teflon, to the upper guide. Print out the TSB so the dealer does the correct one. My dealer put in belts with stronger retractors and they retact fine but also pull harder against my neck when I am wearing them.

BTW My wife's 81 Corolla came standard with the tape and it has lasted 22 years.

perhaps see if you can order the part number identified in the tsb, if you can't talk your dealer into doing it.

This has been a problem with every Toyota I have ever owned. Everytime I see my dad getting out of his Tacoma he has the belt slammed in the door.

    Petty but bothersome!

    Glenn,

I followed your instructions on how to access the TSB's. I have 5 listed and none reference the seat belt or the dipstick TSB that I have viewed in the past.

    EG003-03
    EL008-02
    TC001-02
    EG007-02
    BO023-01

I've updated my vehicle, is there something else that I am missing? I know, I know, dumb questions but...

    Thanks,
