This is a discussion thread titled "Dash squeaking", within the Interior & Exterior forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
Truck is 6 months old and absolutely no problems. I live in Birmingham, Al. It gets in the 20's and occasionally the 10's. Whenever it is around 25 degress or below the dash "squeaks" terribly. It appears to be coming from near the windshield. It only happens when the temp drops and warming truck through defroster seems to cure it. Not being picky as it will really squeak. Wondered if anyone else had this problem? OTher than that the truck is great.
I have had my 2002 Tundra since Nov. And here in Alaska I notice the same problem. The Dash starts to squek any where from 20 to -20 Degrees, One of the other guys on here had the same problem, and the dealer fixed it for him. Can't remember who he was be for the System Crash here though. I just ignore it. I drove mine up to Fairbanks a couple of weeks ago and noticed at -25 Degrees it stopped......Weird
Recommend getting some Frostking 1/2" caulk backing material (round foam rubber) from Home Depot, Lowes, or Hardware store. Place it between the dash and windshield (inside the gap). You won't be able to see it and it cures this squeak.

Follow Redmonds recommendation with the caulk backing material and it WILL stop. I did this about a month ago and haven't heard a squeak since. Its cheap, easy and it works great!

I have that 'same dash squeak' everyone is talking about. But there's another squeak that I also have.
This one is speed (of wind) dependant, not a function of going over bumps. It's as if the windshield might be loose enough to be rubbing against the molding? In another thread, someone recommended spraying the molding with silicone, I'll give that a shot
I thought it might also be a loose antenna, but it doesn't seem all that loose. For those that had the antenna TSB performed, what did it sound like before the operation? How loose was it?

Works great...no more squeaks!!
YES! This worked for me too! I was getting a "creaking" sound going over bumps and sometimes just changing lanes over the "bots" dots. Took some looking at Lowes to find it. It was back in the weather striping section, also known as Backer rod. Guess you have to be in the biz to know that one! This is a 1/2" thick, circular foam piece that I wedged into the space between the dash and windshield with the eraser end of a pencil. Cost me all of $2.50 and works to perfection
Cheapest mod I have ever done.

Well all I have an appointment with the Dealer on Monday morning to get this creak taken care of. I have just read all the suggestions on here and am on my way to Home Depot to get some Frost King 1/2" caulk backing and give it a try. My creak is coming from the center of the dash, I thought it was the defrost vents squeaking, but probably not. Will let ya all know if it works for me too. Thanks! This is driving me absolutely crazy too!!!!
I've had that annoying dash squeak all winter too. I brought it to my dealership and the first time they seemed to take some of the squeak out but not all of it. I then took it back to them and they had one of their techs work on it for 6.5 hours. They said that he took the dash apart and put foam and reseeded everything including the wiring. Well, whatever he did, he took care of it. It has been anywhere from 15-40 degrees the last few days in Michigan and I have tried to reproduce the squeak and cannot . I was about to do the frostking foam solution but I fear that it wouldn't be a permanent solution. Needless to say, I hope that the dealership's way is a permanent solution but only time will tell.
OK all it sure looks like, at this point, that you were right on. I went to Home Depot and purchased the 1/2" caulk backing, installed in between my windshield and dash the full length of the dash and the crack sound is gone. Time will be the test, but it looks good at this time. Thanks
I installed the same FrostKing caulk backing that Redmond recommended to get rid of my squeaking dash. It works great! I even went out on the trails this past weekend and not a single sound! Although, I couldn't hear my dash squeaking/cracking even if I tried because my driver side doors sounded like they were going to fall off they were rattling so much!!! That's my next trip to the dealer...the saga continues!
