Default Dash rattling around the stereo and control knobs

Anyone out there having a problem with their dash rattling and squeeking in the area of the stereo and control knob area? Mine has started doing this about 4 months ago. I only have 6,300 miles on it. I tried to get the plastic surrounding the above mentioned off and it did not want to come. Wanted to try and lube up the clips. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. (Yes I did take out the two screws that are in the vents) Thanks!!

Albee...great post, as this was discussed in a Thread prior to the crash. Mine has 6600 miles and I have the same squeak in the same area. Hopefully, the same folks who had solutions will see your post and provide info, as they did on the other thread. When I stick a couple of fingers into the cassette slot and lift or press down (get your mind out of the gutter!!), the squeak goes away. I just haven't gotten around to pulling off the panel and fixing it. If you check out the Electrical How-To section, you may still find the step-by-step instructions (with pics) for pulling out the stereo while trying to resolve the squeak/source. Good luck.

AHHH!! Mine just started on the way back from boarding. I am going to take the black plate off and see about adding some weather stripping in there just to stop contact between the 2 squeeking parts. When you take the plate (or what ever you want to call it) off, you take out the 2 bolts in the vents and the 3 bolts behind the air knobs. You need to pull pretty hard to get it out because of the air vents. If anyone else has any ideas, let us know.

Chris

I had some rattling in my dash for a while when new but in the past 15k miles of so I haven't had any rattles. Other than windows rattling when slightly down I have no more rattles.

Thanks for the ideas!! I surely do appreciate it. I will locate these other screws behind the control knobs and definitely look for the stereo tab sticking out. I will let ya all know what I find. Thanks again!!

first i removed the center pod assembly, of which there are screws behind the temp. control knobs, then i removed the faceplate to the radio, which is really a circuit board, by locating the clips on the top, bottom, and both sides of the black radio faceplate. upon removal, i saw the circuit board had small pin-like protrusions, one of which when rubbing against the back of the black radio faceplate made a very annoying type squeak, not unlike fingernails on chalkboard. i shoved a small piece of matchbox cardboard (very small piece) between that pin and the black plastic and that solved my problem. prior to this, i tried all kinds of grease, vaseline, adhesive foam tape (which reacts with the dash paint and causes it to melt, revealing the black plastic underneath, thank God behind the oval pod assembly) and the like with no success. i also have installed the 1/2 inch foam (gasket rope) from frost king, available at walmart here, along the dash between the dash and the lower part of the windshield. jeez, for a 28k truck, seems a bit ridiculous yes???

I have that problem also. I copied this from the old site for when I planned to fix mine. I still haven't got around to it yet but maybe it can help someone else. Registered: Aug 2000 TS Member: 1038 From: San Jose, CA My Vehicle: 2000 Tundra Limited TRD Number of Posts: 418

It is in the center of the dash all the way back there. Also I do remember someone saying that their dash was actually missing some of the "nipples" that plug into the firewall.

I do have one more question for you all. When I go to pull the temperature, fan and speed knobs off, do they just pull off or is there a trick to get them off? I DO NOT want to break anything. Thanks again!!

OK, I did get my pod off and lubed up all the clips and even the bolts that hold the stereo in place. the squeak is gone for the biggest part. If I do hit a dip in the road (or something rather drastic) it may give me one good squeak. Other than that the little annoying constant squeaks are gone (for now anyway) Hopefully for good. Thanks to all that helped me out here.

Test to see if picture of my truck shows up. If not sorry. If it does, this is the day after I bought it.

I am still amazed that every problem or issue I have had with my new Tundra, I'm not the only one who notices them. I too have a rattle around the stereo area... will check out the suggested fixes...

I have the same problem with the dash. Mine makes a click click noise when I hit a bump. I noticed that once the truck warms up the noise seems to go away. I did not have this problem in the summer, I think it is the cold weather. I pushed down towards the radio on the dash and it went away. I think whatever holds the dash down somehow gets jossled loose, or maybe it's because I put the JL audio stealthbox, and the bass rattled something apart in the dash.
