Interior & ExteriorDiscussions about the interior, and exterior of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "Help! I need opinions on purchasing a TRD Grill", within the Interior & Exterior forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
Molly Designs, the company that made the grills for TRD is selling the grills for $350 + $18 shipping. They tell me that they don't come with the TRD logo because their deal with TRD is over. Anyway, I found a dealership that is offering my color, however they tell me that the grill does not have the TRD logo as well, and that the grills were extra that they purchased after the TRD deal was over.
They went on to tell me that they were not sure who the manufacturer was. They didn't come right out and say Molly Designs. I assuming that it has to be Molly Designs right? I mean, nobody else made these right? Plus, the people at Molly Designs just told me that their grills don't come with the TRD logo so it is would appear that the grill the dealership is offering is their grill?
Also, they are asking $288 + $15 shipping. That would be $66 cheaper then Molly Designs direct.
1) Would you guys pay $302 for a TRD grill? I'm getting the feeling that my window of opportunity to get one is running out. I can buy a complete body kit in red for $625, but then I would have to paint the grill my color (white) and sell the other parts. It would be kind of a hassle. Plus, by the time a paid to have it painted it would probably run about the same.
2) Do you guys think this sounds legit and the dealer has a grill from Molly Designs without the TRD logo on it?
3) What did everybody else pay for theirs?
4) Lastly, I'm concerned about all of the problems that people have had with the grills fitting right and cracking, etc.
Dont do it. I enlarged the mounting holes and was very careful tightening the bolts and installing. Still one t bolt was stripped and three weeks later one mount was cracked. If molly designs made the grill for TRD they did a P--- poor job.
Go for it. I bought the whole TRD kit and have had no problems whatsoever with my grille. I would get it while you still can. It is one of the best looking upgrades you can do.
The Sport Grill for $279 is the Molly Designs grill and doesn't include the TRD badge. They will sell you that for $16........still a little better than $579!
I'd go for it, if you like the look. Really changes the front end of the truck, even more so than a billet grille. I put one on about two weeks ago, and no problems yet. I was really careful when torquing down the nuts and also am careful when closing the hood. Due to the Tundra's design, the grille is the easiest thing to grab when bringing the hood down. Instead, I hook the latch with my finger so as not to place undue stress on the grille attachments. Yeah, kind of a drag to have to baby the grille like that, but hopefully the mounts will hold up this way. It is nice to know that there are options to replace the grille if I ever need to replace it.
