Default Re-Tinted Windows

For a while now I've been saying I want darker tint. I originally went with 5% in the rear and 12% up front. It looked good, but wasn't as dark as I had hoped.

1st Tint Job (Before): (Click for larger pics)

With the addition of a new DVD head unit, amp, subs and more, I've decided to upgrade. This will help keep prying eyes out. I figure if people can't see in the vehicle, they won't bother breaking in to see what's in there.

So today I went to have 5% done on all windows. But the guy told me he literally just got some new tint in that uses aluminum metallic. He said it's darker than 5%. It's called "Presidential". So I said, cool, let's do it. So it has presidential on all windows and 70% on the windshield. The results were orgasmic....

After: (Click for larger pics)

Now I know a lot of you might think it's too dark. However, I can see just fine through all windows. I can parallel park at night with the windows up (not easy, but can be done), I can see just fine at night through the windshield. You can barely tell it's tinted when driving. It doesn't hinder my sight at all.

As for those on the outside.....they can't see me from the side or rear. It's too dark to see anyone in there. At night, it's impossible to see inside. The windshield is the only place you can really see me. Even then, it's not all that great because the tint reflects and makes the window look super clean.

It keeps out so much heat because of the aluminum metallic in the tint, it's awesome. My truck stays cools in the hot sun and it takes less AC to cool it now. The only negative I've experience so far is the my outside temp sensor on the back window reads about 20 degrees off. That's because the tint reflects so much heat, it can't get an accurate reading. No big deal for me.

Overall, I like it. It definitely gives you that "VIP" feeling when driving around. People look at you and you just know they're saying "who's in there?". LOL. And yes, it is 100% illegal to have any tint on the front 2 windows and windshield in Cali. However, most cops don't care as long as you're not being stupid.

LOL tint to hide everything then advertise it with a sticker. If I were a thief the sticker combined with deep tint would absolutely convince me you had stuff in there worth trying to hide.

It's cool, I took the sticker off after the pics. By the time they get in, they'll have some hallow points in them.

Looks good. I can tell you I don't know how you have such an easy time as you claim at night. I had 20% before on my old truck. Couldn't see to back up if there were no street lights until I put 55 watt fogs under the rear bumper. In some situations in left turns I almost missed things due to not being able to see them through that driver's window.

Wait until the CHP stops you one day and gives you a citation for illegally tinted windows.
And yes I have tinted windows and live in CA. I haven't gotten a ticket yet.

Ah ... I guess that's just the chance we take ... living dangerously

Good luck.

Have you noticed a drop in cell phone reception in alreaady low signal areas? I've heard that some tints (maybe not ths one) have a metallic content that reflects the signal and insulates the driver from the available signals....... It's a good look, but certainly wouldn't pass the law enforcement test without a doctor's note........

I got a ticket for previous tint. It's no biggy. Just pay the fine and move on. For the most part, they don't care. Unless you're speeding or driving like an idiot, they'll drive right by you and not care. The only reason I got the ticket was because an F-150 tried to cut me off and I sped up. He let me choose between exhibition of speed or tint. I chose tint.

You know, I haven't checked that yet. I'll start looking at it and see what the results are. Good idea!

That looks so nice on a white truck John!

Call me old, but I have 15% on my ride (illegal in MA) and I notice that I cannot see as well
in the back roads at night where I live (when I am actually home for visits). Not going to change it, but, I would hit something if my windows were as dark as yours.
