This is a discussion thread titled "Center arm rest vibration", within the Interior & Exterior forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
I am experiencing severe vibration on my 2000 Tundra's front bench seats center arm rest. It only occurs when going over bumps. it it so severe it splashes any drink in the cup holders all over the car. Earlier in the year someone posted having the same problem and the dealer fixed it with some sort of padding under the seat mounts. Any suggestions since I can't find that original thread.

unfortunatly i believe that tsb covers 2000 tundras, i have a 2002 and the center armrest (the one with two cupholders on 60/40 setups) is unusable because of massive vibration. also makes a lot of noise on bumby roads.
i don't know what to do. i took it all apart once, greased where there was a bit of metal to metal contact (just to get rid of some of the noise, not to reduce the vibration), etc.
i've heard of others removing the passenger seat and putting "pads" where it bolts to the body - not ready to do this yet.
i could take it to the dealer, but i'm afraid all they will do is :
1) screw things up even worse
2) say its normal
Well, they have the same problem in the 2003s. I get a cup of coffee every morning for my commute in - ever since I bought the Tundra I have had to down half of it to prevent massive spillage. And that is with with the lid on. I tried using the in-dash cupholders and onle ended up spraying hot coffee all over the radio....
....found this old thread on a search.
anyone else with center armrest vibration with the 60/40 bench seat?
Fixes, ideas, suggestions???
Nope, mine is smooth as silk for the last 2 and half years. Now I have to say that I have never ridden with the center console in the up position, only down. But no problems at all.

I ordered the repair kit listed in the TSB and upon inspection I found my '02 already has the upgrade from the factory.
The upgrade is a design change and should be included on '03 and '04 models.
The two metal supports that the console pivots on seem to be the problem.
I have no idea how to fix this... Now to return the kit for a refund.

I cured the flopping fold down center console condition on my 40/60 bench seat.
My step by step "how to" -- sorry no pictures.
Remove 4 bolts, un-plug the wire and remove the passenger side seat - set aside.
Remove the 4 bolts holding the black plastic, flat "dog bone" to the transmission tunnel.
Flip the dog bone over and note the reinforced spine running down the center, front to back.
This center arch needs to be lifted up from the floor in the rear.
For a shim I cut the head and neck off of an old REACH toothbrush and placed the
remaining handle portion on the carpet with the widest part of the grip facing the bed.
The spine of the dog bone makes a clear impression in the carpet that can be used as a guide.
I then centered the dog bone over the toothbrush handle and bolted it into place making sure
the rear of the spine was centered directly over the widest (shoulder) portion of the handle.
Make sure everything is centered then tighten all 4 bolts on the dog bone.
Now re-install the seat, plug in the wire and bolt into place.
I hope this helps. -- Mine is rock solid now

Thank s for the input! Think I'll try that when I get a chance!
OK, I'm thinking it is time to give this thread a bump... Proof I searched first anyway...
Yup, my armrest is a bit overactive. Called the local dealers and well... You know service writers... people who do not actually fix cars, and likely do not know how, either... They pretend to listen to what you describe and have no clue at all concerning what you are telling them until they say, ahhhh sorry sir but there is nothing like this I have ever heard of... No TSB that I know of.
The guy I spoke with did not even know anything about and TSB of this type ever. Plus you know, they give zero advice, they want you to bring it in...
So what's the latest on this guys? Have any more of you fooled around trying to make the armrest vibe prob become more tolerable?
I have a 2000 with the TSB done but it still vibrated. I found a gray/blue folded up bath towel that matched the upholstery and wedged it tightly under the console. That did the trick and made it solid. If you fold it up carefully; you can't see it and best of all, it was free.
