Post Fixing Scrathes

There are shelves filled with products just waiting for you to bring to the register. Polishes, putties, rubbing compounds, and touch-ups. Each one has its advantages and disadvantages. Polishes and rubbing compounds let you buff out the tiniest of nicks and the surface scratches. There are a few more items for deeper scratches. My truck came with what is called a chipstick. Its like a mix between a crayon and lipstick. It goes on very similar to a crayon but it after it goes on and I let it dry for a day I just wipe the spot to get the excess around the scratch and I can still see where the chip is if I am staring at it but if I step two feet back I don't even notice. One more item (I haven't tried yet) is the AutoSharp Pen its supposed to be color matched and is fine tipped to allow to follow scratches easier. A little on the expensive side at about 16.00. I would check autozone, and pepboys for similar products.

AutoSharp Pen
good luck.

Talking No problemo...

Now this better not be you last post. I hope you seriously consider becoming a member, its worth it.

I went to 4wheelparts.com and they just started a beta version of a message board. I asked a few guys if they knew of TS and some were not to keen on the idea of having to pay, but I have already gotten the money back in savings, mods, people, and more. TS is much more than just message board.

Feel free to ask any other questions. I am sure I can direct you to the correct path.

I just lifted my truck with wheelers coilovers and man I love it.
I will post pictures of it soon.

Langka...

www.langka.com

Use OEM touch up paint and then follow the directions for this stuff.. It blends the mark away real good..

I used it this year on my 01 Cobra Mustang for car shows I enter.. Noone has seen the chips I had since..

It was actually from offroading. Those boulders weren't soft enough. So, they decided to gouge my truck and leave some dents and scratches. Oh well, the trip was fun and can't wait to do it again next year.

this is what I do (basically from autopia.com) :

1) buy 1000 grit sandpaper and 2000 grit sandpaper - you can find them pep boys, etc.

2) use a standard hole punch on the sandpaper. glue "punched out" part (small circular) onto flat end of pencil. this is what to use to sand things down to get an even surface.

3) sand down rough or even part of scratch or chip (using this pencil/sandpaper contraption). you will see the effect of this on the paint around the defect (which will be a small effect since it is only the approx size of the end of a pencil), don't worry, it will be removed later. DO NOT PRESS DOWN HARD.

4) clean real good

5) use OE paint but thin it out. use a very fine brush (you can find at art supply stores, don't remember exact #, but basically the smallest thinnest they have, which is really tiny). fill in using thinned out paint and tiny arts brush.

6) let dry 1 week

7) re-sand down any uneveness like on steps 2&3.

8) clean again

9) use 3M rubbing compound at least 5 times. follow up with an even finer polish or swirl remover (i use meguiar's scratch-x at least 5 times). this step removes the effect of the sand paper/pencil trick.

10) clean again and wax or use zaino or some other polymer sealant.
