Default Converting Cargo to Brake light?

I've noticed that the newer Tundra's have a brake light in the cargo light center.
I have a 2000 and dont have this feature., when was this changed?

Has anyone converted their cargo lights to brake lights?
If so, how can you change the clear lens to red?
How did you do the wiring?

many thanks
JT.

Hum, I believe that all Tundras have the 3rd brake light in between the cargo lights.

Never heard that one before.

unixguru,
Are you sure you don't have a third brake light between the cargo lights above the rear window? I'm with SATundra, I've never seen a Tundra with just clear cargo lights above the window. Where are your third brake lights located if not above the rear window?

well since we are on the topic. how hard would it be to make the third brake light blink when you hit the brake. kinda of like the new honda crv's do. i sure it is just a relay. but anybody got any good ideas on how to do it.

Simple way to make 3rd brake light blink when applying brakes is to cut wire to it and put a female blade connector on each end of cut wire and then plug these into a 552 or other turnsignal relay (available at any auto parts store), for desired blinking sequence, bout a $2.00 mod

Those flashing 3rd brake lights are now illegal in Texas except for commercial vehicles. They only allowed them on a few models for a year or two. I inquired into this about a year ago after I noticed one while stuck in traffic one day.

I believe Mercury is even replacing them with the standard light setup when you take your vehicle in for any service.

But Tundradad is right, its just a matter of a relay.
