Interior & ExteriorDiscussions about the interior, and exterior of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "Dark in sun, clear at night window tint...", within the Interior & Exterior forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
So do they make something like that? They have that stuff for eye glasses. In the sun they go dark like sun glasses but at night they become clear. It would be awesome, IMO, to have something like that for your front windows. You could see better at night, but have it darker in the day w/o having to pick a shade of tint somewhere in the middle. If this exists please direct me to a place where I can buy it. Does anybody else think this would be cool?

As an Optician.....the tint that automatically changes is a great option for my eyeglass customers. It isn't even expensive, in glass anyways. I have heard of some kind of super futuristic police cruisers that were undergoing testing of auto tint windshield glass with a heads up display for computer screen info. I'm not sure I have seen it anywhere else though.
Probably be a great patent idea if the big 3 haven't already done so.
Actually, the glass version of Transitions isn't that expensive. Plus it never stops changing, unlike Transitions, which has a life expectancy of 3-4 years. The glass tint is called Photogrey extra and is also available in brown. Still, if it were available, i'm sure it would be popular.
Didn't Mercedes have a window tint system that you could adjust with a dial, i.e. turn the knob and it gets darker or lighter? Maybe that's a dream...IONO.

Thanks for those links. I sent emails to the current makers of the windows asking for info. One of them listed automotive applications (not specific). Maybe some windows could be made for a Tundra !

JnEsPappa, thanks for that HalfBakery link! I just got sidetracked there for a couple hours. Never heard of it before, but it's my kind of site. I loved the top 10. Well, most of them.
That is a cool link. I was just thinking about that concept yesterday. I was going to post it, but you beat me to it. It is cool that it is real too. I wonder if it can be turned into a film to be added aftermarket to the window...

Thank you for expressing interest in the SageGlass(r) product for your Tundra. At this time, we have not introduced an automotive window product. So, I am afraid that I can't be of much help to you today. When we do introduce an automotive product, we will issue a press release and put a copy of it on our website.
I hope that helps.
Thanks again for your interest,
Mike Myser
