Default I smell a rat, (really)

03 Tundra. About 10k on it.

As of the other day, when I run the ac/heater fan, only with it NOT recirculating, I smell this nasty ratty smell. Anyone run across this? Where do I look?

When I push the recirculate button, the smell goes away. I have found a rat lodged under the wheel cover @ 1,500 miles, so I know there are rats around.

Please help!

yeah thats pretty nasty. once at band camp...we found a nice toasty kitty under the hood of my Nissan sentra. and you thought the rat smelled bad! by the stiffness of the cat it had been dead for at least a week. hmm i wonder what happened to it's tail? i guess only that cat knows the answer to that one.

Do the rats tend to gnaw on anything on the truck??

Dude, I'd be concerned about this... Just what you need is a holy brake line...

ME again.

I just looked under the hood and could see no evidence of rats. Where do the outside air get brought in? Any ideas, (other than the funny humor)?

I hope this helps you, someone here from Hawaii had a mongoose get into the fresh air intake and take a large number of dumps in there. I believe the intake is somewhere behind or above the passenger side wheel well area. The solution was to take everything apart that the turds were in and thoroughly clean it, then he put a screen over the intake so this would NEVER happen again. Check it here

omg...i couldn't stop laughing, but what a pita...i'm not even sure where the blower intake is.

the right side wheel well is where the engine air intake is located, i thought the blower air intake was near the top of the firewall?

My AC has been stinking lately. Not a rat though, more like sweaty socks or something similar. I've got to figure out something to kill the smell. In the past I've sprayed air freshner up under the passenger side of the dash, near the intake. I might try some Febreeze, and make the wife keep her shoes on!
