Default front fender chrome molding

Help, the front fender chrome molding on my 2000 sr5 has fallen off on both sides. The cheap tin tabs that bolt to the inner fender have rusted off. Has anyone else had this problem and if so how did you repair it. Thank You.

Thumbs down Recycled tin cans!!

I just experienced the same problem on my 2000 Tundra. I noticed that one of the mounting brackets was loose so I ordered a new one. Last week I went to remove the moulding to install the new bracket and every single bracket was rusted clean through. The only thing that was holding it on was the paint. Also there was a chunck of fender paint the was chipped off under the moulding.

I had to order all six or seven brackets. It's gonna cost close to $40 (Can) to repair it. I'm sure that all the other mouldings are in the same condition also and it's just a matter of time before they need replacing.

I took the moulding and brackets to Toyota to see what they had to say and the service manager said it's past 3 years and over 60K so no help for you. He pointed out the fact that there was dirt on the moulding...Of course theres dirt it's mounted under the fender!!!

I am not very impressed with the quality. My only guess is that Toyota has been using recycled tin cans to make this junk.

JUNK I say!

Matt

I sold my 03's chrome fender gaurds on E-Bay for around $70, with everything but the screws. Check there, I have seen other sets.

I just found the same problem on my 2000. I thought that the trucks carried a 5 year/unlimited mileage rust warranty?
