Last night, 11/25/2003, one of the local TV stations in Houston had a news feature about the danger brush guards pose to other vehicles. They showed footage of wrecked cars that had been hit by trucks with brush guards, and described the horrible injuries that occurred. A LEO interviewed refered to brush guards as battering rams.
This sounds like the start of a product liability movement setup by lawyers and anti truck/SUV types. You have an accident in a vehicle with a brush guard and you are going to get sued.

Heads up, the attack is on.
What if both/all vehicles involved in an accident have brush guards?
Then what? Sounds like a vast left wing conspiracy!

I have a sportsman brushguard installed on my truck and beleive me, these things arn't built like an ARB or anything. I would guess that there would be little added damage to the vehicle I hit, as the thing is pretty flimsy. There's a pic in my photos. Its a looks thing and really not all that functional. I would doubt it even comes close to the damage a real winch bumper like the ARB would inflict.....bring on those cheesy legal claims.

This kind of thing crops up every time there's an accident involving someone with a brush-guard, especially, unfortunatey, if someone is injured or killed. For a while there was a movement to ban them on trucks in cities because of "the hazard they posed to pedestrians" in an accident.

I Happend to see the same segement. i think it was on channel 2 news. It was one of those scandalous news reports to get ratings that all the news stations are doing now. Like "wayne dolchafino investigates firefighters using YOUR taxdollars to 'inspect' local strip clubs! The whole sleazy story on where YOUR tax dollars are going, tonight ONLY on CHANNEL X News!"...they do crap like that to get ratings, and it P's me O. They say euorope has banned them, as well as a couple of other countries like Austrailia or somthing. They also said it might cause injury to you because the airbag might not deploy at the correct time, with the correct force, causing more bodily harm. I think its a load of crap. Insurance companies are probably at the root of this sham. Its propostorous!
P.S. too bad theres no spellcheck on this forum. I couldda used it. heheh
In fact, when I spoke with the folks at ARB about 2 years ago now, they sited this as the reason why they opted not to make the Prado or Deluxe style bull bar and only offer the Sahara bar style.
A crock o' crap ifin you ask me
As a side note, I have bashed a Volvo into junk with my Sahara bar with one fell swoop..........................

It tore off the lower rubber mount and bent it 1/2" down on the driver side, thats it. The Volvo lost 1/2 of its trunk
Sweet! The ARB on my old 94' Toyo Pickup got to munch on some Jeep Cherokee rear end when someone slammed on their brakes to allow a pack of ducks to cross a busy street in rush hour. I got a little knick on my winch hook but the Jeep now has a new way to ventilate the interior cab.
I recently traded in my baby (99 gmc yukon 4dr 4x4 ranchhand bumper and warn winch) for a 2004 access cab 4x4 trd. I intend to put my winch(x8000i) on the tundra when budget allows. If you were to hit a civic at any speed with either, there would be one less space in the junkyard. Any help finding a b/g or bumper to house my winch would be appreciated.
Then why do cop cars have effectivly the same thing? I want to hear the LEO hem and haw and the liberal Huston media whine.
Threaten to take 'em off the cop cars and listen to the screams.
First off...push bars on the front of a patrol car have a function ie pushing stalled cars out of the way or protecting the front end against contact in pursuit driving.
Second...even if a law was passed which made brush guards illegal, all the cop cars would still be driving around with them on. Why? Because provisions are written in to allow law enforcement to use certain things. Ever seen a patrol car with blacked out tinted windows? That would be illegal in most states, but perfectly legal on patrol cars. It's almost impossible to get a fully automatic rifle since the passing of the Brady bill, yet I have a fully automatic colt commando with EOTech sights sitting in the trunk of my car.
Point is, what is illegal for most people doesn't necessarily transfer over to the police, fire, military. I don't really think they'll outlaw brushguards. I've yet to see an accident where any extra damage was done.
