Answered my own question...the Stepbar from Manik seems to be highly recommended.

Any thoughts on aftermarket lighted running boards (Westin) versus Stepbar? I know it's a personal preference but I am just interested in various thoughts.

It does really boil down to personal preference, and price is always important too.

I had initially coveted the WAAG step bars in black with bright aluminum steps, and wheel-to-wheel length. But after a run-around from an unnamed vendor and a price hike for shipping (length required truck freight) by a multiple of 4, I canceled the order.

I ended up getting the Chromed Stainless step bars by Performance Products. Not sure who makes them, but I got the look of chrome, durability of stainless, very easy install, and a lifetime warranty...

Hi:

New (old once) member just joining. I have been a tad absent here and found out the recent crash changed a lot... But that isn't the point I am writing this.

Just to respond to Fred's post. The chromed step bars from Performance Products is made by Manik. I also wanted to order one last year but couldn't wait for the chromed bars and instead went with the factory-like (98% similar, couldn't tell the difference) boards painted to the color of the vehicle. The cost, for me was $750 installed.

What kind of costs are you getting for yours ? Will like to know whether it has gotten cheaper (i would expect) or it has gotten more expensive (I would seriously doubt)...

Glad to be back here once agin...

Chris, good job and love those pics of yours.... You make me real jealous, man ! Where do you get all these money in these times of economic crunch ? Are you a former Enron exec ? I bet you must have received some big bucks as "Retention Fee" just to have you stay on at Enron....

Just kidding you tho'

I have 3 teenagers (2 boys). I showed the boys pictures of the running boards and step bars. They don't even hesitate...stepbars!

The latest "Performance Products" catalog has a nice Sequoia on the cover, with the bars and a every other accessory you can think on on the Sequoia. I'm just thinking they probably change the catalog cover based on which vehicle you have since I did requested the catalog??

Millikan,

then step bars it is! i was thinking more for little kids. it's easier for my little ones to step on the flat running board than the tubes.

Chris: I wholeheartedly agree with you. I have two young daughters 8 and 9- and the flat boards was a huge relief for them climbing n and out. But, if my kids were teenagers like millikan's, I'd buy the step bars in a flash... It will go very well with my chrome wheels and the monotone silver sky color of the vehicle.

Glad to be back, Chris.... Sorry I missed the gig (again), but I was away to Japan all of last week... Only returned this past Sunday. I promise I'll hang around here more from now on.

Whatever happened to "Bad_Knees" ? Is he still around ?

Take care and have a wonderful weekend

OAC,

yeah, i almost removed my running boards, but the kids really need them. once i get my drop, they're coming off.

Bad_Knees is still around! just doesn't post as much. you both need to come to the next gathering!

Millikan,

i just checked out my performance products catalog and the step bars do look nice. did you order them yet?

Chris

Simias,

Yep, I actually ordered the Manik Stepbars this morning. Installation should be straight forward...and I hope will look good. My Sequoia is a Silver SR5 with 27K/Miles...and it was time for an upgrade. I plan on keeping it for quite a few years so I bought the stainless bars. Next comes the wheel upgrade...just waiting for the tires to wear out...it's getting close.

The Manik stepbars I ordered arrived Monday, 3/11/02...it took 9 days which was fine.

It only took 1 1/2 hours. All parts included but missing four 1/4" washers..no big deal.

They look great but point out that I now need to upgrade my wheels!
