Default Importance of sliding rear window/privacy glass?

I am choosing between two trucks. One is black, 4x4, V8, ABS, TRD package, and a bed liner. The other is identical but is Thunder Gray with the power window package - ie has the rear slider/privacy glass. I don't care about power windows, but really like having privacy glass and having a rear slider.

I know one can get windows tinted, but I prefer factory tints and am thinking the rear slider "opens up" the cab more. I find standard cab trucks unbearable without one, but extrended cabs aren't as bad. Any thoughts would be great and thank you in advance.

Someone broke into my ranger by jimmying the rear slider, so now I prefer trucks without them.

Also if you want to put wide stickers on the back window you have to cut them or something.

As far as the "privacy glass" here in Texas you can go *really* dark on the tint on the back/back sides of a truck. I would get an aftermarket tint (no matter what it comes with) for safety and cooling.

Thanks Grin,

Good point about the window being broken into. It makes alot of sense to force the criminal to go all the way and break a window, where as a punk, looking for a quick score, of a few CDs/sunglasses/dive gear, wouldn't be willing to go that far.

I will have to see how dark I can go with tint.

Ian, I have the sliding rear window with the window tint and I could do without the sliding window but not the window tint. Just my 2 cents.

The slider on the Tundra is fairly jimmy-proof.
Not to mention that on the extended cab it's of no use to open the slider. You can't reach anything through it. Same with the rear side windows.

And having the beer-can window is nice - you get a lot more airflow with that thing open in the summer.

As for the privacy glass, well, it's much better as the tint is part of the glass, it can't be damaged and will never get a bubble or lose it's color.

Ian,

I'd go with the slider - real useful if you carry anything longer than 10' such as wood trim.

A small wooden dowel is all it takes to prevent any unwanted entry from the rear slider. I very much enjoy having that thing open for increased air flow as well, but even more so fo the convenience of getting things out of my shell.

I love both the sliding glass rear window and the tint, and I agree with Hovisimo's idea. Last weekend was the first warm day when I could open all my windows while driving and the first time I could fully enjoy my new TRD duel exhaust!
