Interior & ExteriorDiscussions about the interior, and exterior of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "To De-Badge or not to De-Badge?", within the Interior & Exterior forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
has anyone taken off the trim below the badges that run along the sides. i think that it could look really cool, but i would like to see some picks before i do it. can someone tell me how to remove the badges, i know it might sound silly, but is it done with force, an heat gun, a solvent. thanks
Do a search on debadge and you'll see lots of info on how-tos. As far as removing the body side molding, if you have the access cab, there are three alignment holes per side behind the BSM. I removed it and replaced with much smaller and color matched BSM. You can see what it looks like in my pics or just click HERE.

I have had my '03 Tundra going on two months now. I had never even heard of the term de-badging, although I have seen it, before descovering this web-sight. I like the idea, but am not sure if I want to commit to it. I am trying to weigh the pro's and con's of doing it.
Pro's:
-Looks clean
-Quicker polishing
-Make other drivers look twice to figure out what I'm driving
Con's:
-May lower resale
-Don't see it done too often on high end vehicles
-Make other drivers look twice to figure out what I'm driving
There is no question about it! DEBADGE!!! I did it with in the first week and love it!!! I saw one truck done and I was convinced! As said earlier, I kept the badges on my Garage wall just in case I decide to sell the truck sometime this century! Once you do it you will forever be glad you did!!
I have decided I want to de-badge the Tundra. Should I wait til warm weather or should I break out my hot air gun and do it now. I don't want to scorch my paint though!!!!!!!!!!
After joining TS in December, I read several posts about "debadging." I never have liked a lot of emblems on a truck but wasn't sure about their removal until I read some posts on how to do it. I removed the large Tundra/Toyota chrome emblems from the doors and tailgail. I left the small SR5 emblems right behind the pop-out windows (for now) as well as the V8 emblem on the tailgate. Just the other day I "popped-out" the V8 emblem from the grill ('03 model) and put it in the glove compartment. IMO it gives the front end a cleaner look, doesn't trap bugs, and makes it easier to wash and wax. Someone else on this thread said that "debadging" makes the Tundra look generic and sterile. IMO I don't think so. My SR5 Offroad is white, has Westin Platnum Series step bars, and a bed mat. The side trim is black (as it is not a limited). I try to keep the truck as clean as possible and wax it regularly with a good cleaner and carnuba wax (seperate steps). I get a lot of compliments on the truck and do enjoy the occassional questions--what brand is your truck? Even without the logos, I still catch people at traffic lights glancing at the truck. I assume the primary reason is the overall shape and design of the Tundra (although it seems that all the new trucks are starting to look similar). I did bid on a Harley emblem on ebay to put on the tailgate opposite the V8. Maybe people will think it's the Ford/Harley-Davidson model but I'm afraid the white color would "nix" that and on top of that, I was outbid--
Note to 03SilverSky: There are some excellent discussions in TS on how to accomplish the "debadging"-i.e-detailer spray, fishing line, and adhesive remover. I just followed their instructions and after an hour the job was done--no scratches, marks, or shadows. Like I said before--this forum has tons of useful information.
I did mine in the middle of summer. I cut through the adhesive like, well a hot knife through butter. You could probably use a hair dryer, which wouldn't burn your paint, but depending on how cold it is outside it may not work well. The worst part is getting the remnants of adhesive off of your paint. I have to agree with docsg, I also have a white Tundra and it looks so much cleaner without all the cheesy emblems. I only left my SR5's on, nothing else.

Whew....good thing...you'd have to throw some oil under it to pull off the true Harley look.

Well, I gone and done it! I went and de-badged everything except the "SR5" behind the flip windows, and I must say, I think it looks much better. The smooth body lines show up better and the truck looks pretty slick.
