Question Disabling the cargo light???

I just picked up an 03 T3 and love it. Got a great deal ($6500 off sticker) and already removed the grill emblem and cheesey decals on the bed sides.

My question has to do with the cargo light. Everytime you get in and out of the truck, this goofy thing comes on and if you don't want it to stay on for 30 seconds, you have to hit the button.

I looked in the manual and there seems to be no way to leave it off. What the perfect solution for me would be is to leave it off all the time and be able to turn it back on with the dash switch.

Am I missing something obvious here?

Is there a mod to turn it off with the switch and leave it off until I hit the button to turn it on?

Thanks

There is a mod that has been done for 2000 - 2001 Tundras. It is documented in the "Garage" Mod Shop forum. The link to the mod is HOW-TO: Cargo Light Modification for 2000 and 2001 Toyota Tundras

Unhappy membership

I can appreciate supporting a site that offers great information to owners and that may be something I will consider later on.

However, I think it kinda stinks that I ask a simple question and the response is "buy a membership and we'll answer your question".

Not a flame, just personal observations from my second post on the site. How do I know I want to subscribe if I can't see what I'm getting.

Again, not a flame...

Brian

Edit:

I just wanted to add that I support a BMW owners and Ducati owners website, but it was only after I saw that the sites offered a wealth of information and needed to stay online. Being greeted with open hands on a first attempt makes me skeptical...

Brian - I posted the link for your information that it has been done before. Since non-Club members cannot view the contents of the "Garage" forums, it is difficult to know the wealth of information that is available. No one is under the obligation to become a paid member.

I just paid the small membership dues just a couple of months ago, after buying my Tundra.

I saved $577.05 on the mod for the alarm system with the information in the club garages. I also wanted to install the OEM fog lights. Toyota told me it "can't be done, it's a factory install only". Well, I now have the fog lights installed, thanks to all the information found on this site. Probably saved a couple hundred on labor doing it myself.

I tried a search on "Cargo Light" and found lots of threads of information. How-to details are in the club garages.

Think about it, we spend thousands of $$$ on our trucks with Toyota, and Toyota does have so much as a technical support line to answer questions. But, for a few bucks I've been able to find out all kinds of information that Toyota won't talk to you about.

I'm certainly not against supporting a site that helps Tundra owners, it just seems strange that the average joe can't get a straight answer without a few different replies talking to me about how they need $ before they can answer my simple question.

Here the answer to you question and I'll even give you a link.... but you have to pay to get to it...

I belong to a Ducati mailing list that has never cost me a dime, but saved me thousands and many headaches. I'd support it in a second if they asked because I know the information is useful. Not just by word of mouth.

Again, no flames. Just observations from a newbie.

Ok as straight an answer as I can give - No you are not missing anything, that is the way it works. However, there is a mod that allows for complete control of the cargo light.

1. turn the light off completely, even when the doors are open(ed), regardless of the ignition switch position
2. turn the light on ANYTIME the ignition switch is in the ACC or IGN position regardless of vehicle speed or
3. return the Cargo Light function to the "factory mode".

The modification requires adding an additional switch and modifying the original circuit wiring.

I am sorry, I cannot provide the complete modification as written, or the accompanying photographs because it is content within a paid member only section of the forums.
