Question Dash Squeeks

I have some squeeks in my dash of my 2001 access cab 4x4 TDR and after some extensive investigation found it was near the windshield and the dash and have yet so fix it. What excactly is backer-rod I went to home depot and they looked at me like I was from mars. Is it called by another name? or what else can be used in its place?

Backer rod I think is normally used for insulating doors and windows. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

But it is usually found in the hardware section of home depot or lowes, where you would find the door locks and door sills and that sort of stuff. It comes in 3/8" and 1/2" thicknesses. Get the 1/2". The stuff I got was gray and it comes in a 10 or 20 foot roll. It is a foam rod similiar to the swim noodles that kids use nowadays. Here's a link to the description of some backer rod used in log homes, but the home depot stuff is basically the same.

Good Luck,

Question

Do you just stuff it down between the dash and the windshield or do you have to take apart the dash to install the backer-rod
