Interior & ExteriorDiscussions about the interior, and exterior of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "First scratch - advice needed!", within the Interior & Exterior forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
When my wife called me this afternoon and started by saying, "You can divorce me if you want to", I KNEW it had to do with our Sequoia! Luckily, it was not as bad as I first imagined.
She was in the garage, thought she had placed it in park, bumped the gas pedel and hit my work bench, which hit the wall and pushed a wall stud about an inch off the bottom plate. A PIA for sure, but wall is easily fixed, though I'm not looking forward to the drywall work!
On the sequoia, it sounds like there are 2 or 3 small scratches on the bumper, one of which has red paint on it from hitting my tool chest.
What's the best way of getting that paint off? What should I do with the scratches? They're on the plastic, so I'm wondering if I could sand it smooth.
head out to the woods and make sure the rest of the truck matches the bumper .
...try some blue magic *plastic* polish first on the bumper, use a buffing wheel, if that doesn't remove the scratches use their metal polish and a wheel, then the plastic polish.
i'd hand-sand the plastic, if it's really necessary.
Better that the tool box left its paint on the truck vs. the other way around. I would use a good cleaner wax (Meguiars ?) and just rub it off.
As far as other scratches, I touched up mine were my honey hit the side platic on a massive folding metal table in the garage. Used genuine Toyota touch up and then buffed that out. Barely noticeable.

I'll find out more when I get home from work.
Here's the best solution for getting foreign paint off of a scratch (it won't remove the paint job on the truck, just the paint that got on it): Take someb baking soda and mix just a little water to make a thick paste. Put the paste on the affected area and gently scrub the paint away. I honestly didn't think this would work when I got hit by someone's door in a parking lot, but it did. It's the cheapest way to remove foreign paint from a scratch.

I'm with DeepStealth (or whatever his name is today ) - put some sliders on that b*tch and hit the trails with it. Just imagine cruising through the boulders with that baby, listening to your favorite CD (turned up loud - it will take you a while to appreciate that rock-to-metal grinding noise) with the A/C on, it doesn't get much better than that!

WHAT?!?!? And hurt my baby!!!! Besides, she wouldn't let me....it's hers. She gets mad when I drive it on snowy roads and give the ATRAC & VSC a full work out.
All I can say is...I"m glad it was ME who put the first scar on it!

Hey hey!!! It worked like a charm! I used that with a scotch pad and very gently scrubbed it away. Unfortunatetly, it didn't put BACK the paint that was taken off, nor did it remove the deep scratchs
Here's the damage...garage side, family room side, and SQ:
