Default Yakima MightyMount on OEM roof rack

I have the OEM roof rack, and I'm looking to add a ski/board rack. After much research online and extensive search on this forum, easiest solution seems to be getting 4 Yakima MightyMounts for $22/each, and attaching a Big Powderhound to it. Total cost comes out to approx $188.00.
Is this the best and safest way to do this, or is there a better solution? Will using the MightyMounts on the OEM roof rack be weaker than getting a total rack system?
Any pics of this setup would be helpful.
Thanks.

For a ski/board mount you should be fine. I did notice some flexure of the OEM rook rack when I mounted up some Hully Rollers and a kayak for a 1000 mile road trip. Didn't have any problems, but was a bit surprized I could get flexure of the roof cross bars when I tested the kayak mount using my hand to put a cross load on it.

I'm still of the opinion you should minimize the load on the roof at all times -- reduces rollover etc. My rooftop cargo box is primarily used to carry large, light and bulky items (sleeping bags and camping pads) and not anything heavy.

MightyMounts will work for what your going to be carrying. I have a 15-year old full Yakima rack system that outlasted three different vehicles. I did have to buy different towers for each vehicle to mount the basic racks but I could still use all of my different Yakima rack attachments. I have a 2002 Sequoia 4X4 Limited with the factory roof rack and I went with the Yakima LowRiders, part #8000118, for the versitility and long term durability, I recommend going with the full rack system even though the upfront costs will be higher.

I have used Yakima systems for several years and several vehicles. I think that they are great and recoment them,

I have the rail mounts on my SnugTop shell. Unfortunbately, one of the cross-bars is still in Nevada following a disagreement with a low-hanging tree.
