Angry Someone stole my tailgate!

Even though I religiously lock my tailgate, the one time I am in a hurry, someone victimizes me. My tailgate is noticable because I hand painted my badging black. Looked great. I called the police, filed a police report, and found out that there have been 35 reported stolen in Jacksonville, FL just in the last month! So lock your tailgates!

Anyway, anyone know how much it costs to replace it? I want to know before I call my insurance company because I don't want to raise my premium for something that my deductible won't even cover.

If I were you I'd just find one on ebay. There's usually a few.

Really sorry though man. That plain sucks. Why people would need to steal tailgates is beyond me ...

Most people steal tailgates if they back into something and dent or ruin theirs. They see it as being easier then buying a new one. Damn I hate thieves

That absoultely sucks. People are a trip. Had a three hundred dollar tool stolen out of a company truck, that was left at a GoodYear Tire store where we've had a fleet account forever, and this time someone (who had access to the key), decided to help themselves. Times ain't what they used to be. Sorry to hear about your loss. And thanks for reminder to lock it. Man what a shame.

Sorry to hear about your experience. To think, so many losers still running around and they are either Tundra owners or people that want Tundra replacement parts. Not sure of the cost to replace, but, good luck!

Totally bites, sorry to hear about this. I always try to remember to keep mine locked.

20 years ago, I had my Dodge Challenger parked at a bowling alley where I used to play in a league. When I got in my car to go home, I dropped it into first gear, let out the clutch, and it just sat there, second gear, third, reverse, all the same. Figured my linkage was broken, but when I crawled underneath, I found that my driveshaft had been stolen. The police officer who wrote up my report said that their goal was probably for me to leave it there for the night, then they'd come back later, and give it a proper stripping. It was a pretty sweet car, you can see it in my pics.

The Challenger never saw that parking lot again!

There are several lock kits made spcifically for the Tundra that you can buy that lock automatically with the keyless entry system, if you have it. I helped FYR145 install his and it is really straight forward and takes very little time. I have always kept mine locked ever since I went to lunch one day with a friend and then came straight back to the office. In the time it took to walk from his truck in the lot into the office and sit down, someone stole his. The UPS guy came in not two minutes after we sat down and asked who owned the red truck in the parking lot because someone had just stolen the tailgate.

You can usually find ads for these locks in "Street Trucks" or other truck related magazines and I bet outfits like Summit Racing carry them as well.

Default Be on the lookout please!

I posted a pic of my tailgate here. It's dirty, but you can imagine it clean.

The badging is gloss black, so it's quite distinguishable. If you see this on the road, especially in the North Florida area, please take down the license plate and PM me, or even call the police. There are detectives on this case because of all the tailgates stolen in the past month.

BTW, this is considered Grand Theft because of the replacement price!

Once again Zeus that really sucks. We've got our own batch of "crackheads" up here in Delaware and all the associated crap that goes along with them. Mostly stereo thefts, happened to me twice different vehicles (one no alarm, the other had two alarms). Just depends how INTELLIGENT someone is, and how much they want your stuff. Taking tailgates, I just don't get it. I know they cost some change, but damn, at least a stereo you can fit in your getaway car, but just be on the lookout for the guy with a tailgate in the back of a truck. Obviously because you de-badged and painted yours just adds salt to the wound. Don't feel bad, the crack-pipe reject that popped my last vehicle jammed up every possible entry point into the vehicle BEFORE giving up and finally smashing the passenger vent window (94 Toy Pickup). F'ing Aholes, it aint' bad enough your jacking someones stuff, but it just gets disrespectful (I'm sure this is an understatement). Alright, I'll go take a pill and calm down now, just really pisses me off.

Believe me, I am pissed off. Right now, if I got my tailgate back in one piece, I wouldn't even care, the person could just go. Yesterday, I would have tied him to a tree and torched his mom right in front of him... and felt good about it.

Nothing against Mom's, but I like your style anyway. What is life after all without "incentives" and "de-incentives". Lately I'd say CHAOS. Sorry that all the (not enough by far) police are busy with multiple homicides, and gang banging, bank robbing, and child stealing to mention a few, but something's got to change if you can't have a damn tailgate on your truck. I believe that good people will be good because they ARE. And, well, the others, well, they need some "de-incentives" to prevent certain behavior. Times are changing, need more cops, make it happen, not enough courts, make it happen, jails too small, make em bigger. Then and only then will we start down the road to recovery as a nation. Sorry guys, off on a rant.

18 cups of coffee, and an episode of "Judge Judy" will do that to you.

S.D.

Totally off the original subject, but I'm with sessiondrummer...sorta. I don't think we need more courts or jails or laws or anything except maybe LEO's. What we need to do is ENFORCE the laws we ALREADY HAVE. IF... and it's a big IF... the thief gets caught... what happens to him? Rrrrrrrrrright, he goes to court, gets a fine and it's put on his record. Jailtime? Very little if any. People say "what goes around, comes around", and it's true. But when you're the one getting ripped off, you sometimes don't get the satisfaction of finding out what "came around" to the pie that ripped you off.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaand I'm done. Off to lock my tailgate

Lightbulb Offtopic (but it's my thread anyway)

Solution to prison overcrowding:

Reinstate Alcatraz... maybe something some larger island in the South Pacific. Deliver all life-term prisoners there and any grand theft convicts who steal items out of vehicles. Saturate the island with confiscated drugs and bladed weaponry. Deliver food twice a week. Let them set up their own government and distribution of food. After they have all OD'ed or killed each other, send another load of prisoners. Continue until no more life-termers are left in the traditional prison system. Then work on those with > 20 year sentences. Here's the kicker... put hidden cameras on the island and have a reality TV show on some cable station, so that we get to see the gruesome parts. This would pay for itself ten-fold.

And if they steal tailgates, we send their Moms there too.

Perturbed,
Zeus

I like the North Atlantic better for a location. South seas sounds more like a Federal facility.
