Interior & ExteriorDiscussions about the interior, and exterior of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "windwshields", within the Interior & Exterior forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
I am experiencing a crackling sound in my windshield at sixty to seventy miles an hour...Is anyone else have the same problem....since new..my tundra is two years old.
Yup! Usually at the high 70's and with more wind like when passing a truck. Also more when it's colder. Sounds like it is coming from the top. This is after about 2 1/2 years, not from new. I'll be watching for replies.

I seem to remember several members saying that the windshield mounting clips were the culprits. They loosen up over time. I don't recall exactly what the sound was that it made, but it may be the same thing.

Can u tell me if you know if the bug deflector would cause this problem..That is what the dealer is trying to tell me...I find that hard to believe.
Funny this should be coming up now. I just got back from a road trip, my first in my new 2004 tundra 1450 miles. I was passing a truck at about 70 or so and i heard this noise coming from the windshield and thought it was very small stones or something. It did sound like poping
This was also after about 3 hours of driving and it was colder out.
My windshield just broke a couple weeks ago. No real warning. I was in a storm in Charlotte, NC. I had scraped enough snow off the windshield to be able to drive. I had the defroster on, and I heard a crack. The windshield cracked all the way across about 4 inches from the bottom. I guess it was from the temperature differential between the piled up snow, and the heater.
