Painted bumper valance - a subtle, good looking mod
I added a painted lower bumper valance to my truck. It is subtle, but I think it looks good. It doesn't stand out too much on black, but I think it would look good in any color. I think it makes the front end a little more clean looking. I like it a lot better than the flat black plastic.

Looks GREAT! I've been wanting to do the same thing. Since you "added a painted lower bumper valance" can I assume you purchased it? I checked with Steve G @ Carson's and he said the valance is the same for all models. e.g. Even for the Limited (where it's stock) it's the same part number...you just need to have it painted.
Lemme know...
Thanks!
Jim.
EDIT: Actually, upon further review (!) I see you were referring to the lower bumper valance as you clearly stated in your post! Dooh! I've been wanting to do the upper valance, but doing both the color of my truck (Mica Jade) may look cool. It definetely completes the picture on your black beauty...

The Tundra's that came with the color keyed package had this piece painted. I got it from a member who had a color keyed Tundra and got an IS bumper cover. The IS cover repalces the upper and lower bumper pieces so he had it laying around his garge. I'm not sure how much they would be new, but you shold be able to get them. It was a factory option.
Here is a picture of a salsa red Tundra with the color keyed package. You can clearly see the lower bumper valance is painted. Here is another picture, this time on a black truck. If you adjust the contrast in the picture in photoshop, paint, etc (or even highlighting it might work) you can more clearly see that it is painted. I found another black, color keyed Tundra.

Doing the upper is easier. All upper ones come painted on Limited trucks. Find a limited person who has the IS bumper cover. They will have the upper and lower bumper valance laying around and they just might be willing to sell. The bottom one only came factory painted on color keyed trucks. The color keyed trucks did come in Jade Mica. Thanks for the compliments on the truck.
Do you still have the IS kit on your truck? I think I might be confused from looking at your pictures... I say do this. I promise it will really clean up the front of the truck. Nice truck, BTW.

Thanks! I have the IS kit (black) and ended up removing my bumper cover. (I may have it painted at some point and put it back on.)
Q: Is the "color keyed package" the same as what is stock on a Limited? e.g. I don't recall it being an option you could order on an SR5, for example. If it is a separate option perhaps I'll ask Steve G again but this time reference the color key option and see if I can order the upper and lower valances.
Seee-ya,
Jim.

The stock Limited came with painted side moldings, painted plastic upper bumper cap and painted mirror covers. The lower bumper valance (like I replaced) was unpainted, black plastic on the limited. This is a good example of this.
On the SR5, as you know, the upper and lower plastic bumper pieces were unpainted black plastic, same with the side molding.
The color keyed package, which may have only been available on the limited models, came with all the stuff the limited had painted as well as a painted grill, front and rear bumper, and painted lower bumper valance. Hope this info will help. I feel like I know too much about this stuff...

Wahoo!! I met my new neighbor last night and it turns out he works at an Auto Paint Supply Store in town. He's going to show me the materials and techniques it will take to prep and paint my bumper.
EDIT: If I do pull this off, I'll take plenty of pics and post a "how to".

That's a pretty sweet mod! For anyone going to the DFW meet this weekend, the valances are one of the many items I'm bringing down to give away to anyone that wants them.

Your truck was the inspiration for what I did on mine. When I saw it at the beach meet last year I hadn't even thought of that mod before, but it does look good. It is especially striking on the white truck. I think it is the little think that make the truck though.

Wish I could make it to the DFW meet (I'm in Colorado!) but wanted to ask what you meant by "giving away" the valances? e.g. You're giving away color-keyed lower valances for free, or just the stock black ones? If the former, perhaps you and I can make a deal on a Mica Jade (green) lower valance?
Thanks and have fun guys!
Jim.

Sorry Jim, I should have made that clearer. I've got the black plastic valances that I took off when I put on my IS kit. I've actually got quite a few things that I've been keeping in the garage after modding "just in case". I'm tring to stir up some interest in the DFW meet so I'm bringing it to give to those who want it. It'd be a long drive from Colorado, though!
PS. I didn't mean to hijack the thread. I think that's a really good looking mod that could be done relatively inexpensively.

It's interesting that you said this.
I was also inspired by someone who had done it at the previous Beach Jam.
You are right that is the little things. Most people don't notice a lot of what I have done but they see something different. Like, if you look at a rear shot of my truck you will notice that I have painted the gap between the bumper and the tailgate black which helps clean up the back by hiding the welds and the spare tire cranker downer hole. plus a bunch of other little things like that.
Plus inside the rear fender lip has holes to mount flairs that I don't have so I also painted black and made the lip look like it is only 1/4".
Stuff like that.
Chuck

Can you give me an idea of what a paint and body shop would charge to do this. I ask because I am looking to have 1 fender flare from my Seq. repainted(or maybe I'll buy a new one and have that painted) cause it's got a big scratch in it. Thanks.
