This is a discussion thread titled "Bolt-On Tundra Billet Grille", within the Interior & Exterior forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
I was looking at www.truckaddons.com and found that they sell an APC billet grille. Their description says that this grille is 100% bolt-on. Does anyone have any info on this grille? I think that it might replace the entire grille including the chrome part. I emailed truckaddons yesterday and will let you know what I find out.
It's funny how they always say "100% bolt on" isn't it? How else are you going to attach a metal part to your truck? Tape it on? Or maybe pressure fit it? I don't think so. Seriously though if the price is around 100 bucks, I would imagine that it would be just the billet grill itself. I know a couple of companies sell the billet grill already installed in a surround, but they charge around 180 bucks.

AKTNDR,
I got it from JBM Sport Truck Accessories. The grill is made by T-Rex and I absolutely don't recommend them. I had many problems with fitting it and the black part between each bar is peeling. I would definetly go with a Trenz if I had to do it over again.
Thanks. Thats good to know. I'll look into the Trenz. How much did you pay for yours? Even if it is cheeper would you still not reccomend it? Thanks again
Strange how things work. I just replaced my Trenz with the T-rex.
T-Rex was a breeze to install compared to the Trenz (unless Trenz has changed since I got mine) now I have to worry about the black between the veins. Will it never stop.
Yellbird,
that's very strange because the first grill I ordered wasn't bent correctly to fit right. They sent me another one and I had the same problem. I took it to a professional shop. This guy did billets all day and he couldn't even fit the thing in right. There were big gaps on the left and right side. So I ended up sending my grill surround and the billet to T-Rex for them to fit it in there themselves. They did a decent job but it still could fit better. On top of all that, the black in between is starting to peel. They probably got better if you didn't have any problems.
Mine has a gap on the right and left side but the Trenz had none, in fact it was too long and was a bear to get in, had to cut the shell bolt holder on each side and then reglue them back together.
The Trenz was flatter so I think the T-Rex is a little better looking. I also don't get as much of the howling noise as I did with the Trenz. I corrected that with a couple of sheets of black rubber attached to the inside.
I now have two complete grills so I can switch them out depending which side of the bed I get up on Ha ha.
AKTNDR,
that would be cool if yellbird would sell the Trenz to you. It's already installed and the surround he has is color matched red. I just noticed your truck is red! Unless of course you want the regular chrome. My surround is color mathced to my truck and I like it way better than regular chrome.
I think color matched would be better. That would be great on my truck. I sure hope that he decided to sell. hint...hint... Well we'll just have to wait and see.
I was interested in your post. You mentioned the T-Rex didn't hum as much as the Tranz. On another thread, someone said they got the Trenz because it DIDN'T hum. I guess this problem is more widespread than I thought.
However, what I really need to know is what the cure is. My Stull hums a bit, too.
What is it you've done with rubber to fix yours?
Mind if I share it with Stull?

I just made some thin black sheets of rubber and attached them to the back of the grill and that did the trick. Make sure you don't cut off too much air flow but I haven't seen any temp rise. I started with a large cardboard sheet for each side of the grill and kept cutting them done untill the hum started coming back.
I then made the rubber sheets the same size.
I do get a little hum on really windy days when I am fighting a head wind but nothing like it was before.
Hope this helps.
