Default New owner of '04 Double Cab has a question

Been driving Chevy Silverado's for 11 years, but the General has lost me as a customer for their new stuff. Got this 2004 Double Cab Limited on Friday.

Question: I'm not sure if I like the "over fenders" or not. Can I just unbolt them and take them off? I think they are optional on the SR-5...

BTW, I still like the General's older stuff. Here's a link to my 72 Chevelle SS 454 convertible

Sorry to say but from what I believe is that the fenders are held on by bolts and fender snaps which are connected into holes in the outside of the fender arch.
Do a search on the fender flares on the site and you might find some better info. I know it has been discussed previously.

Good luck

Default There's a hole in my fender dear Liza, dear Liza......

Sure, you can just unbolt them and take them off. But you won't like the way it looks! If you don't get the rubber flares you have a little chrome strip around the edge of the fender. You might be able to cover up the holes with that item if you like the looks of it better. I think it's the same on the DC, guess I'm not positive after I think about it a little.

Sweet Chevelle!

Happy Hauling,

Doug

I took the front wheel arch mouldings off of my Acc. Cab Tundra. It left me with these exposed clips (snaps) that were unsightly. I could have removed the clips by breaking them off and I didn't want to do that. It was a real challenge getting the mouldings back on.

If you put a moderate lift and larger tires they won't look as bulky. Nice Chevelle by the way...

Congrats on your refined tastes, I used to be a bowtie guy, then I was a blue oval guy--I won't even give you the gory details, but let's just say the Toy has been much nicer to me over the years.

That said--is yours a Limited TRD or just a Limited? If it has the larger overfenders TRD style they have a series of square holes punched in the fenders and there is a very specialized plastic clip system to hold it all together. Removing the fenders will leave ugly holes behind, Most guys didn't like the TRD flares because they were too big for the OEM tires--leaving you with two choices: bigger tires or new flares. There are a few aftermarket fenderflares that will cover these holes and stick on with 3M tape but my guess is you are going for a cleaner look in which case--wider tires might be only way to dress them down a bit
