arb is actually your best choice unless you intend a lot of low speed offroad driving...arb afaik is the only manufacturer to crash-test their bumpers. a reunel (or custom fab, or tough country/ruff/rough/tuff/wtf-ever-theyre-called) is more like a large piece of unyielding metal attached to your frame, which is great if youre bumping trees at low speed, but will kill you if you hit a brick wall or another car at high speed.

I have an ARB on my 04 DC. I have not installed the winch yet, but if you put a heavy winch bumper on with a winch you should consider upgrading the COs to accomodate the extra weight. On the 04s you will have to do some very minor cutting to fit an ARB. I have pics of what I cut if you are interested. I had a TJM on my other toyota and the ARB is much heavier and better built than the TJM.

Sounds like you've bought into the ARB marketing pitch. They make great bumpers, but I've yet to see a single report describing how the other similar bumpers "kill you". Frankly, given the bolt-on mounting, and the air-bag actuation input, it's very hard to imagine how the bumper design could impair the airbag deployment, and ANY after-market bumper is going to provide more protection than the flimsy factory bumper.

You have a negativity about ya on ARB bumpers, have ya seen one up close and personal?
If you have you would notice the plates that bolt on have ripples in them designed to absorb the impact. I have yet to see anyone produce any pictures of the other manufactures with crumple zones built into them. Prove us wrong and get the facts that the arb is not the way to go. That is why this site is so great freedom of speech one bumper does not suit all.

I think ARB bumpers are awesome. We just put one on my brother's Dodge. It's beautiful and functional, and I've read everything I can find on them. Unfortunately, as of my last check with ARB USA, they don't have a Sahara-bar designed to fit the 2006 double-cab Tundra without modification.

And you're right, you can say whatever you wish on-line, no matter how silly. That doesn't mean we're obliged to swallow it.

Those who regularly work on traffic crash sites and study NHTSA crash data, or even those with common sense, will know that it's complete crapola to suggest that small "crumple zones" on a 200 pound bumper will produce a significant difference in crash mortality in a 7,000 pound truck. The majority of the energy absorbing capacity of the vehicle, ARB equipped or not, resides in the chassis and frame design, not the few inches of steel in the small bumper in front of it all.

As long as the bumper doesn't adversely effect air-bag deployment, a "Brand-X" bumper isn't going to "Kill ya".

Sheesh...

I read into HD bumpers in accidents and came up with some good information on the ARB bumpers about saving the frame with the use of the crush brackets and is what prompted me to buy mine, although ....

I will be bolting the brackets to A36 1/2" thick steel 8" - 9" long by 3.5" wide for my Body Lift (bolted to the frame to lift the whole bumper) and and then some 3/4" or 1" piece of high impact rubber between them and below on the exposed frame. using 10.9 Metric Fine thread bolts and washers, The inside bumper has alot of free play to allow this 1" - 1 1/2" worth of modifying and fit like its not even there.

It will be the same lifting as the side brackets 1/2" A36 Steel 4-5" tall x 4" wide using M8: Metric 10.9 Fine Thread bolts.

Rubber is known for absorbing kinetic energy AND deflecting it like a solid bouncing ball. Ever played bumper cars? Imagine what it would have done without the rubber on the outside when bashing into each-other? Basicly I will be eliminating the metal to metal contact points with the added cushion.

I'll be sure to post pics once I pick the metal up at onlinemetals.com (Seattle base company)

Then taking it to a machine shop to do the welds/cutting out of the holes being able to lift the ARB bumper just like a stock location.

Go look in my gallery and you can see the mods are fairly minor to mount the ARB to a 06 dc.

Just be cautious as ARB states any modification to there bumper voids the warranty.
So mine is on without any mods to the bumper just the truck.

Hey normally just click on the camera off to the right side.
or at the bottom of the page is a photo gallery link.

I will post the direct link here:
http://www.tundrasolutions.com/photo...y.php?cat=1236

ARB techs know me by now cause the 1st bumper was wrong then had to wait weeks for another to arrive. Seems odd that the 06 is different than a 05 but they claim there is a difference.
